Judge Rules Porsche Is Not at Fault for Paul Walker’s Death

Porsche is not at fault for the fiery crash that killed actor Paul Walker almost three years ago, a federal judge ruled Monday.

U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez said there was not enough evidence to prove that the Fast & Furious star and a friend died because the Porsche Carrera GT they were in lacked several key safety features, the Associated Press reports.

Walker was a passenger in a car being driven by his friend, Roger Rodas, when it went out of control and slammed into a power pole and several trees in Santa Clarita, California on Nov. 30, 2013. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigation found that the car was going between 80 and 93 mph at the time of crash, according to CNN.

The judge was ruling in a lawsuit brought upon by Rodas’s widow, who had claimed the Porsche’s suspension failed before the crash and that the sports car lacked a crash cage and fuel cell. “Plaintiff has provided no competent evidence that Rodas’ death occurred as a result of any wrongdoing on the part of defendant,” Gutierrez wrote, according to the AP.
