[According to the New York _Times_](http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/01/science/vikings-archaeology-north-america-newfoundland.html "undefined"), the new site in Newfoundland was picked up last summer by infrared satellite images, which saw manmade shapes under vegetation. [The Washington _Post_ describes](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/04/01/an-ancient-site-spotted-from-space-could-rewrite-the-history-of-vikings-in-north-america/ "undefined") the historic finds as “a fire-cracked stone and some mangled scraps of iron.” If archaeologists determine that this site was, in fact, a Viking settlement, it would be only the second one ever found in North America.
