Watch the Trailer For the R-Rated CG Film Sausage Party

1 minute read

America has a long tradition of raunchy animation — Family Guy, South Park, et al. — but never before has Hollywood released a computer-generated film that received an R rating. This will change later this year, when Sausage Party opens in theaters across the country.

The film, a rough cut of which premiered at South by Southwest on Monday night, is the story of a group of supermarket products that embark on an adventure to find the meaning of life beyond the grocery store shelves. To their horror, they discover that it involves being eaten.

The film is a vehicle for the usual suspects of comedy cinema: Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Michael Cera lend their voices to the titular sausages; Kristen Wiig is a hot dog bun; Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, and Paul Rudd also feature.

The red band trailer, which features some NSFW language, suggests that the movie’s comedy will be dark, which makes sense — when food is anthropomorphic, being eaten amounts to cannibalism.
