In an election season dominated by insurgent candidacies and outsider fervor, Hillary Clinton is wielding her years of political experience as a strength.
In a new campaign ad meant to inspire Iowa voters ahead of the Feb.1 caucus day, Clinton presents clips of herself going back decades. In each one, she talks about children to convey messages of hope for the future. But stringing together video clips from so many years also serves to remind voters of her long career in politics, what TIME’s Sam Frizell calls her “hard-won pragmatism.”
Clinton commands a lead in national polls, but in a recent Iowa poll, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders came out ahead with 51% support to her 43%.
