The second season of the podcast Serial is moving to a biweekly broadcasting schedule so as to accommodate additional reporting for what has turned into a longer season.
The next episode of the season, which is tackling the case of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl—who was held in captivity by the Taliban for five years after walking away from his army base in Afghanistan—will now become available on Jan. 21 instead of Thursday. The executive producer of the show, Julie Snyder, told the New York Times that the 14-day window was needed as “there are more paths we need to go down.”
“Since we started broadcasting the show, we have gotten more people willing to talk, and because of that, it has opened up more avenues of reporting” Snyder told the the Times.
After the first episode of the second season aired, Bergdahl was ordered to face a court-martial on charges of desertion and endangering troops.
