A group called Overweight Haters Ltd. is passing out fat-shaming cards on the Tube in London. Kara Florish posted a picture to Twitter of a card she was handed that says: “It’s really not glandular, it’s your gluttony…”
Another man said he saw the same card get handed to a young girl who got off the train and started crying.
The card says that the organization “hates and resents fat people.” It goes on to explain its frustrations with people wasting money on “selfish greed” and that “by eating less” people can “be better off, slimmer, happy and find a partner who is not a perverted chubby-lover.”
Florish posted on Facebook about the incident, writing that she is not upset but understands it could upset those who are struggling with confidence and eating disorders.
The British Transport Police tweeted on Monday asking anyone who has been handed a leaflet to contact them.
While the group might be hoping to insult, Florish noted on Facebook that its cards misspelled the word ‘beautiful,’ so perhaps its members are unsure of the word’s meaning as well.
