Watch Shonda Rhimes Admit She Killed Off McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy Because She Didn’t Like the Actor

Shonda Rhimes has admitted that she killed off a major Shondaland character because she didn’t like the actor.

“I’m not naming names,” the 45-year-old producer and writer told The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore on Wednesday.

The famed producer is behind mega-popular shows like Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy – all of which have seen the untimely deaths of some characters.

While she’s not “naming any names,” the most recent shocking death on one of her shows is McDreamy from Grey’s, played by actor Patrick Dempsey.

Other ill-fated characters are Scandal’s Harrison Wright (Columbus Short) and James Novak (Dan Bucatinsky); Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) and Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) from Grey’s; and HTGAWM’s Sam Keating (Tom Verica).

Rhimes appeared on the Comedy Central show to discuss her new book Year of Yes – but it seems the 45-year-old has said no to a few of her characters.

She told Wilmore that she spent about a year and a half saying yes to everything “that I thought was terrifying, awful, gonna make me freak out,” including being on talk shows.

“I think I have such a panic and a fear of public speaking or being in public. I’m really an introvert,” she told Wilmore of her fear of appearing on talk shows.

“I was very shy when this began and so I would go into a full panic … and I wouldn’t remember even doing the interview.”

Rhimes previously told PEOPLE that her journey of yes has changed her resolution for good.

“There is no real finish line,” she said of her journey. “There is no way for there to be one because now everything feels possible now. Now that I know what happens when you say yes, how could I possibly go back to saying no?”
