Star Wars: The Force Awakens revealed some new scenes as part of ABC’s #TGIT night of dramas, with a slightly altered TV spot aimed primarily at the non-geek audience. But there were plenty of dogwhistles in those few seconds to tantalize the die-hard fans.
First we seem to be hearing some pieces from the upcoming John Williams score. Then come the obvious new shots: Finn’s TIE Fighter escaping The First Order hangar bay, Han Solo handing Rey a pistol and saying, “You might need this.” Later, we see the old smuggler in a shootout, while Finn uses Luke Skywalker’s old lightsaber to slash at a stormtrooper with an electrostaff.
We also saw BB-8 handle stairs with surprising ease as a wide-eyed Rey descends into a Resistance command room. Gathered in the center, we see General Leia from behind, alongside Solo, C-3PO and a Mon Calamari creature who looks a lot like Admiral “It’s a trap!” Ackbar. (The young woman in the circle looks a lot like Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd.)
