One Direction fans lost it on Friday when the band dropped their newest single, “Perfect,” with many theorizing that the song is a response to Taylor Swift’s “Style” from her album 1989.
A devoted fan has combined the two songs into one, creating a brilliant mashup that has quickly gone viral. Directioner Emily Sachs explained how the similar lyrics of the tracks made her decide to mesh them together.
“I’d seen a lot of people discussing how the song could be a response to some of the songs from 1989, and the line ‘if you like midnight driving…’ immediately made me think of ‘midnight, you come and pick me up…’ in ‘Style,'” she told Teen Vogue. “I’ve made several mashups over the years so I decided to give those two a go. I was shocked by how well they ended up working together.”
