Soon you can see Billie Holiday perform at the Apollo Theater in New York. The only catch is that she’ll be a hologram.
The Apollo has partnered with Hologram USA to bring hologram technology to the theater, the New York Times reports, and has slated Holiday as its first appearance in November.
“Billie is going to be able to talk about the history of the Apollo,” Jonelle Procope, the Apollo president, told the Times of the holographic Holiday. “She can take questions from the audience in an interesting way. She can sing some songs.”
The famous jazz singer, who died in 1959, got her start at the Apollo and performed there almost 30 times throughout her life. The Apollo has an exclusive contract with Hologram USA for two years and is planning to add other holographic performances to its lineup.
