Las Vegas residencies have become the hottest ticket for pop’s biggest divas: Mariah Carey’s just opened, Britney Spears just extended hers and Jennifer Lopez officially announced hers Tuesday on American Idol after months of speculation.
Lopez’s show will kick off Jan. 20 at the Axis theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, where Spears currently performs, and continue for 19 more shows in January, February, May and June. A pre-sale begins Wednesday before opening up to the general public Saturday. In addition to these dates, Lopez will have to juggle her judging commitments for American Idol’s fifteenth season, which Fox announced this week will be its last.
J. Lo, who said her sold-out New Year’s Eve show in Vegas warmed her up to the idea of residency, hinted that the show would revisit all eras of her career, from her “Waiting for Tonight” days to more recent material.
“There’s a lot of different things over the years people have come to know me as [and] so many different things we can delve into,” she says. “We haven’t started exactly, but in my mind, I know it’s going to be a multifaceted, high-energy kind of block party.”
Don’t be fooled by the gig that she’s got — she’s still Jenny from the block.
