A Price Is Right Contestant in a Wheelchair Won a Treadmill

Prizes on The Price Is Right don’t always make the most sense for the contestant who wins them—where’s a big-city apartment-dweller going to put a sauna?—but on Tuesday the game show may have had its most mis-matched pairing of all: A woman with no legs took home a treadmill.

“I kept thinking that it was a really big joke,” Danielle Perez, who started using a wheelchair in 2004 after she lost her legs in an accident, told CNN. “But there was no irony in their cheers or applause… everyone at CBS seemed genuinely excited for me that I won.”

Perez said there was a noticeable audience pause that was edited out of the broadcast following the prize reveal, but she’s keeping her sense of humor about the incident. “This is literally the best day of my life,” Perez, who’s also a comedian, tweeted. “I’ve been popping wheelies all day.”

In a statement, CBS said that “Every member of the The Price is Right studio audience has a chance to be selected to play. Prizes are determined in advance of the show and are not decided based on the contestants.”
