Bruce Jenner said his ex-wife Kris Jenner had a difficult time coming to terms with his gender transition.
In his interview with 20/20′s Diane Sawyer on Friday evening, the reality personality said making his big reveal to his partner of 23 years “rocked her.”
“It shook her,” he told Sawyer. “If she had been really good with it and understanding, we’d probably be still together.”
But the father of six added that he has no complaints about his wife in the wake of him coming forward about his change, adding that she is a “good person.”
“I loved Kris. I had a wonderful life with her. I learned a lot from her,” he said.
Although the famous Keeping Up with the Kardashians mom, 59, was shaken by his news, she saw the signs leading up to his reveal, Jenner, 65, explained.
He said he had already been taking female hormones for five years during their marriage, which made his chest grow: “You can’t hide those things,” he said.
He also remembered during the interview that Kris would ask him, “You like to wear women’s clothes?” He described memories in which she would request that he change when he was dressed in feminine outfits.
“I downplayed it,” he continued. “I feel in a lot of ways when you love someone you don’t want to hurt them.”
Jenner even addressed the pair’s sex life, admitting that he thought it was “pretty good.”
He explained, “Maybe later on I heard [that] we didn’t, I don’t know, but I thought it was pretty good.”
The couple never went to therapy, which he admits didn’t help them work through the complicated period during their relationship.
“Take two aspirin get plenty of sleep and you’ll be just fine?” he said. “It doesn’t work like that.”
Jenner now looks back and remembers that he spent more than 20 great years together with Kris raising “phenomenal” children.
“We had so many memories,” he said.
