In 2006, he completed the first-ever summer expedition to the North Pole, and in 2010 he completed a world record expedition to the North Pole, the South Pole, and the top of Mt. Everest—all in one year. In 2014, he completed what he believes will be the last unsupported expedition to the geographic North Pole… ever. Larsen documents each of his adventures, and sees his expeditions as a way to educate the rest of the world about the changing climates of the places he travels to. He hopes to spread the word and raise awareness about these coldest of places, before they are gone for good. ## Transcript [ MUSIC ] The world is an amazing place. It doesn't matter if it's your backyard or Mount Everest or anywhere in between. There's amazing areas that are, are ready to be explored. [ MUSIC ] My name is Eric Larson. I'm a polar adventurer and. An expedition guide. My main focus is going to what I call the last great frozen places left on the planet and hopefully documenting them before they're forever gone. In 2010, I completed a world record expedition of the South Pole, North Pole, and top of Mount Everest all in one year. And I recently just completed what I believe may realistically be the last unsupported expedition to the geographic. North Pole in history. The North Pole expedition is probably one of the most difficult adventures on the planet that nobody really knows about. To see these huge, vast landscapes that very few people, if any, have ever been here. And getting to understand them on this very small level. A chunk of ice. A crystal of snow, but also, on this very big level, in terms of traveling across these spaces for weeks and months. [ MUSIC ] An adventure is a really powerful tool to talk about these bigger issues than just yourself and, for me, I've always been very focused on the environment, the protecting [ UNKNOWN ] place. And so I realized there was a really opportunity to use an adventure to talk about how these iconic places are changing. It's very easy to say that my one effort isn't going to have any sort of effect. But I have a very simple model, which is " Begin with one step ." I think there's a lot of people who look at what I do. And say you're so lucky to be able to doing what you're doing. And so my piece of advice for them is go do it. It's easy to sit in your chair and say no, but there's a whole world waiting out there to be discovered.
