Pennsylvania State University-Main Campus

University Park, PAwww.psu.edu/
With more than 40,000 undergraduates, Penn State - University Park is the largest of Penn State's 20-some campuses, and it dominates the surrounding area of State College, Pa., especially during football season. If you aren't a rabid Nittany Lions fan, the school is large enough to satisfy your alternative interests and help you find people who share them. Some students complain about class size, describing 500-seat lecture halls and little interaction with professors. But others rave about the world-renowned professors who are happy to extend research opportunities to undergraduates. The school's surroundings are friendly, if a bit isolated from cities. Pittsburgh is 135 miles away; Philadelphia is a 200-mile trip. Like its students, PSU's neighbors in Happy Valley are huge fans of the Nittany Lions. During the notably pretty spring months, students can enjoy homemade ice cream at the Penn State Creamery, said to create some of the best desserts in the world. Penn State's greatest advantage, however, may be its name. Employers throughout the nation know, or have personally attended, the school, so a diploma from Penn State can open a lot of doors.
