When she earns more than he does

Are you in a marriage in which the wife earns more than the husband? MONEY magazine would like to hear your story.

For an upcoming article about men, women, and money, the magazine is looking for married couples in which the female spouse earns more than her husband. Among dual-income married couples in recent years, the wife out-earned the husband in 29% of households, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s up from 18% of households a quarter-century earlier. And if you include households in which the husband has no earnings at all, the woman is the primary breadwinner among 38% of couples.

As common as it is for a wife to make more money than her husband, though, the situation can still be a sensitive one in a society where men have traditionally been a family’s primary source of income.

That’s why we would like to hear from you. Are you a wife who earns more than her husband? Are you a husband who earns less than his wife? Or are you a stay-at-home dad with no earnings at all? We’d like to know what the experience has been like for you and your family. How easy or hard has the arrangement been for you? How have your work lives affected the division of labor around your house? How have your relatives, friends, or colleagues responded to your situation?

If you would like to be interviewed for the story, please use the confidential form below to tell us a little about yourself. We’ll follow up with potential candidates. (We won’t use any of your information unless we interview you and you agree to participate in the story.)

Thank you!
