Supper Club

Supper Club

Who needs a fight club when you have a supper club? In Lara Williams’ daring debut novel Supper Club, a self-conscious young woman and her charismatic best friend throw debauched dinner parties, judgment-free zones where women can gorge, get high and “take up space” — itself a radical feminist act in a society that’s always policing women’s hunger. Williams’ descriptions of consumption are at turns mouth-watering, stomach-turning and lyrical. Yet it’s less a novel about food than it is a document of how far we’ll go to find more profound forms of sustenance in a world that’s intent on starving us out.
