St. Louis’ 21-day shutdown of three newspapers ended. The strike-bornDaily News, published in the last week of the strike by the unions,with an all-star staff recruited from the struck dailies, promptly wentout of business. It had made $7,000 in five days’ operations by amethod it hoped the bosses would never use. The method: no salaries,just a dollar a day lunch money to everybody.
