Here Are All the Things the Robots Are Doing at the 2020 Olympics

The biggest stars of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo may not be the athletes, or any humans at all. Toyota has partnered with the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for the Tokyo 2020 Robot Project, an initiative to highlight Japanese technological innovation.

Some robots, called Field Support Robots (FSRs), will help out at the events by carrying items like javelins and shot-puts to "reduce the amount of staff labour for the events," according to a July 2019 press release. Other robots will bring drinks to spectators and help attendees with disabilities get to handicapped seating.

"At Tokyo 2020, we want to capture the imagination of spectators by providing support robots as we do our part to make the Games a success," Nobuhiko Koga, the chief officer of Toyota’s Frontier Research Center, said in the press release.

Here's what to know about all the robots participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
