Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez
The Oscars are rife with selfie potential as celebrities schmooze and hang out wearing fancy clothes. The 2014 ceremony gave us the most retweeted tweet of all time with Ellen DeGeneres’s star-studded selfie, and this year didn’t disappoint. The world was introduced to a new feminist power couple when Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep, who bonded over Patricia Arquette’s speech calling for equal pay, snapped this image together.

Tyra Banks
The America’s Next Top Model host may be the guru of all things fierce, contoured and couture, but the supermodel went viral after posting a make-up free selfie. “I wanted to smooth out my dark circles so badly!!!,” she wrote in the caption. “But I was like, “Naw, Ty. Show ’em the REAL you.” So…here I am. Raw.”

Miracle of life
Gil Solano’s wife Sarah told him she wanted a photo of the “expression on our faces” when their daughter was born, so he did her one better: he snapped a selfie at the actual moment she was giving birth. The miracle of life selfie has been viewed nearly 3 million times on Imgur, so luckily for Gil, his wife “cracked up” when she saw it.

Miss Universe contestants
Sometimes even a simple selfie can affect world affairs. This picture of Miss Universe contestants was taken by Miss Israel (left) and shows Miss Lebanon (center left) alongside Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan at the pageant in Miami in January. Pope Francis
Pope Francis has made a name for himself as the people’s Pope, interacting with the faithful on Google chats and stopping to bless the needy as he walks down the street. But Kristupas Vorobjovas, 11, proved he was possibly the most #blessed of them all when he snagged a coveted papal selfie during the Pontiff’s visit to Washington, D.C. in September.

Taylor Swift and Meredith
Taylor Swift has had quite a year, jet-setting around the world on her 1989 tour and inviting a bevy of famous friends to perform with her onstage every night. But everyone knows the most unstoppable members of her squad are her cats, even if this one doesn’t seem too excited about it.

Barack Obama and Bear Grylls
There was a White House petition calling for survival expert Bear Grylls to make President Obama drink his own urine when the two met in Alaska to film a special of Grylls’ show. (Obama was on a visit to the state in September to highlight the need for action on climate change.) That didn’t happen, as far as we know, but they did snap an epic selfie, with the president joking, “Glad this was the only Bear I met in the park.” -
Kim, Kanye and Hillary
Kanye has said he will run for president in 2020, so that begs the question — is this a selfie of two future presidents, a future first lady and a past first lady all at once? Mind exploding.

Selfish
No list like this would be complete without selfie queen Kim K. In 2015 she published a book dedicated entirely to the art of the selfie, filled with 445 pages of images of, well, herself. Whether or not you care to thumb through the book, Kim remains the undisputed queen of the art form. Long may she reign.

Now that you’ve read this entire list, just remember: this is what you actually look like when you take a selfie. This group of sorority sisters was mocked by announcers at a September baseball game in Arizona for paying more attention to their phones than to the game. But when they were offered free baseball tickets as an apology, the group asked instead that the tickets be donated to a nonprofit that works with survivors of domestic violence.
