Hassan Rouhani

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran doesn’t actually tweet from the English-language account that bears his name. Since he assumed the role last August, Rouhani’s “friends” have used this unverified feed as a mouthpiece to the West, especially as Iran continues nuclear talks with six major world powers. But any praise Rouhani has received for using Twitter is balanced, if not erased, by criticism that his team can tweet while his citizens remain banned from doing so. —Andrew Katz
