‘You Motivate Me to Be a Better Person’

To Sebastian

The house isn’t the same when you’re not in it. It’s too quiet. There’s no mini-me running around naked, making up extravagant and funny stories. There’s no one leaping into my arms and telling me, ‘Mommy, I miss you so much!’ even if I was just gone for a minute. You shower me with affection all day, every day. You tell me you love me every chance you get. You’re as smart as you are sweet. I just can’t imagine my life without you and all those big Bash hugs and kisses.

When I first saw your face, I fell in love instantly. You looked exactly like grandpa, which means you look exactly like me. To be honest, before you came along, I was a little bit lazy. But everything changed the moment you came into the world. You motivate me to be a better person all the time. You’re the reason I want to work really hard. I don’t sleep much, but that’s OK. I just want to give you the best life I possibly could.

And in that life, if you want to become a famous electric guitar player — like mommy’s favorite, Slash! — or a scientist, or a doctor, or anything your heart tells you to become, mommy and daddy will be there to support you all the way. As you get older, I hope you remember to always be yourself and do anything in life that makes you happy. You’re always going to have daddy and me by your side. You will grow up knowing what true love is.

Pumpkin, I fall more in love with you every day. Know that no matter who you are or what you do in life, I’m always going to be proud of you. You’re always going to be my baby.

Love,
Mommy
