## Transcript

Hey everybody, welcome back to Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3. I'm Ed. I'm here fellow Treehouse members Ethan and Rich. Hey. We're gonna take a little bit of a deep dive into some new stuff. We're looking at Xenoblade Chronicles X right now so Rich you want to just take us in Take us in. Yeah, so Xenoblade Chronicles X is sort of a spiritual sequel to the original Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii. Doesn't really touch on the storyline but it does pick up on a lot of the philosophical ideas that you saw in that, in that first game. With the time that we have here, I'm just gonna have us jump right into the game.

Yeah, sure. Get a little game play experience. We'll get through as much of it as we can. Yeah, we just started from the title screen and we're just going. We're gonna set, we're gonna set some of the story up, too. Okay. Ethan, since you can actually translate some of this stuff, I may ask you to jump in and summarize. Sure, sure. But I'm just gonna, you know, set some of the story stage here. Yeah. At the start of the game, you're gonna see a big, a vast battle of these two warring alien species. Yep. Unfortunately they've kinda decided to have their big battle right over- ish, over Earth? Yeah.

You know, right on top of us. Not so, not so great for us. It doesn't work out very well for us, no. So the two of them are warring. They are essentially annihilating the Earth as they are doing all of this. We do our best to fight back, and that's what you're gonna see in this cut scene here. They do, we do our best to fight back. We build technology that helps us to try to, you know, step up to the battle with the aliens. Doesn't really help us a whole lot, and the earth is, well you'll see what happens to the earth, it's cool. But we're gonna, we're gonna put all of humanity into a series of arc ships and just take off, leave the earth behind, and that's where Xenoblade Chronicles is gonna start off.

Yeah. It's, it's you'll see as we get goin here, but it's, it gets pretty epic pretty quickly, so. It's already epic. Very epic. Yeah, yeah. And this intro sequence is just beautiful to watch here. It is. What you're seeing right here is, the first of the warring, alien species, deploying their armada. and, as you can see, oh, oh, yeah, there's the, there's the Earth, Yeah. You're, you're gonna see a. Aah! That's a lot of, lot of guys. Yeah. That's a lot of alien action. You're gonna see things go bad pretty quickly here. Yeah. There's the other alien species coming in. There they are, fight, fighting it out.

[ NOISE ]. Oh, this looks great. Yeah. The the art design on this game is incredible. I love the ship design. I love the robot design. Yeah. Just the choreography of this intro battle is gorgeous. Yeah. It's good. And, I think that is one of the first thing you notice. Taking a look at this game, people, people see it for the first time and are, like, whoa, you know. It really catches the eye. We'll see that more as we, as we dig in. Now, you can see the, the battle looks like its, looks like its going okay, but you're gonna see some, impact on Earth. Hm. okay, poor choice of words. You're gonna see what's happening to us, in the middle of all this battle, is, we're just getting annihilated.

Right. While they're fighting. You can feel free to translate some of the subtitles. Yeah, no, there's just kind of a narration here, explaining what, you know, that Earth kind of was this chosen battlefield, and that, you know, these two forces have converged. Basically summing up some of the stuff you've already said. And the forces of earth, you know, got together, to try this sort of grand escape, escape plan. This is our last ditch effort basically. Right. To get away from the battlefield since we know there's no hope left for the Earth itself. Yep. And, you can see, you're gonna see our archships taking off.

Yep. And then, you're gonna see the Earth blowing up. Well. There it goes. Thanks for coming by everyone. Yeah. [ LAUGH ] So, you know? Have a good day, Just lifting your spirits. Get things off on the right note. So this is one of the arc ships you were talking about. These things are vast. You can see that's an entire city, inside of that, inside of that unit, inside of the ark ship. We're pursued by the aliens. We do what we can to fight back, but the arc ship. Right, so these are, these are the Earth forces kind of fighting off the aliens that are pursuing them during their escape? This is actually, yeah, inside the, inside the ship itself.

But this specific arc ship gets knocked out of the, out, knocked out of space. It crashes into this alien planet. Right. Xenoblade Chronicles X takes place on this, on this alien planet. You can see one of the the, the city spheres, basically landing the population [ CROSSTALK ] for the most part survives the impact but there's, their escape pods that the human, humans escape into. Right. We're gonna get into the gameplay in just a few minutes so you can see what happens when your player character gets awakened from the stasis pod for the first time, right? And that's right where the game starts here.

Okay, all right. It kind of just drops us into the action here. And we're gonna to start off with a little bit of character creation. I'm going [ CROSSTALK ] to go through this character creation really quickly. There's a lot of customization that you have at your okay disposal. Sure, of course. We could get lost in this one for a while. I'm gonna go for some silver hair. Yeah. And I, I love that we're doing this, I mean it's not often that you get to see an RPG that's not out yet, that's, you know, we're just showing from the beginning, so. Yeah. I'm happy that we're able, we're able to do this.

Previously we've just been able to show little snippets of this game. Right. So, you know. Obviously, you know, everything is still in Japanese, clearly. Yeah. Not everyone. Is bilingual like, like Ethan here. This is true, this is true. You know. So, like this is still [ UNKNOWN ]. Now, Rich was skipping through pretty quickly but. Yeah, sorry about jumping through. I want to get into the game play really badly. Yeah, I wanna see. And as far as character creation options, it's cool you can spend a lot of time, like getting hair color perfect. Oh yeah. To getting your eyes to look either to match your own eyes or to go for these, nice cyber organic eyes.

Well because if you're gonna, if you're gonna commit yourself to this journey, you want to make sure that you have exactly the character you want. Exactly, you've got the right heart tattoo on your face. So what we're having, what we're going through right now is just stasis pod being opened up by the first person that you meet, another survivor from that great invasion. Right, right. And so this also begins kind of a little sub- narrative that not everyone sort of mad that journey with that sort of departure ship landed safely with the city. And there's you know, a smaller group of people that are kind of scattered out there and need to be recovered and brought back.

Add your gonna find your way through to the very first survivors to, to escape the crash and you are going to spend some time looking for survivors as well. We'll talk about that a little more as we get deeper into the game. Yep. Here are your first moments as you're as you're waking up out of the stasis pod. I'm going to start skipping some of these cut scenes after you get kinda the flavor for it. Sure. I do want us to see some of the gameplay pretty quickly here. Yeah. But I want to set the scene properly before we jump into it. Right, right. So this is Elma and she's one of the sort of scouts, one of the warriors from the city out looking for survivors and she's found you at this point.

And there we are, barely conscious, pulled out of the stasis pod. Now at this point I'm gonna jump into it. Elma's gonna explain a little bit of what we've explained to you as well, about what your current situation is on this alien planet. I'm gonna take this opportunity to skip ahead just a little bit, so that you can see some of the free roaming of this, of this game. We start off in a pretty constrained environment, just to get kinda the feel for battle and the feel for, It wants you to enter your name. Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm just gonna. Yeah, let's just name him, Ethan. You guys can't see what's going on down here.

It's fine. But you speak of that constrained. Oh what. Environment. That's something that changes very quickly. Once we start rolling. I name all of my characters Ethan. It's just a, it's a routine. It's a thing I do. Oh. Thanks Rich. You just made his day. What an honor. So Elma's [ CROSSTALK ]. I just think that's a good name, by the way. Well, it is. It's a very strong name. She's figuring out what it is that you remember about your time before. Yep. We're gonna just through this too, and I just want to get into some of the battle now. Yeah. Sure. And some of the exploration. People who have played Xenoblade Chronicles are gonna feel that this is very familiar.

There are a lot of elements that they'll recognize. And, I mean, a lot of people know this is a long- standing series. There've been a lot of titles in this series. And if, for people who have been fans of this series, I'm sure they've recognized it in some of the footage that has already come out about this game. But they're gonna see things they recognize from even further back than the, than the Wii game dating back to the series origins and stuff, that'll look really familiar. And, and I think that's a really nice nod to, to people have stuck with this series for a long time. Right. So here it is night time a little mist in the air.

I've got an arrow that you can see right here telling me where I oughta go. We're gonna find our way into the first battle pretty quickly. As I'm exploring here I'm gonna stumble across other artifacts that have crashed from from the arc ship. Right. Did you play Xenoblade on the, on the Wii at all? Or did you? I didn't, I actually, I think I was lookin over your shoulder a lot, when you were playing it. Yeah, yeah. I spent a lot of time with that game [ CROSSTALK ]. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah I did not finish the one on the Wii, but I still need to get back to it, but it was great, it was awesome. So, we're gonna crack into this pod, here, and see what we discover out of this.

Talking about targeting, and all of a sudden we're in a battle. This is just, kind of, the first intro battle. Now, I'm gonna try to run away from this guy for a little bit, just to talk about what's going on here. Yeah. On the bottom of the screen, you can see. Run, run, run, you can see the arts palette. That arts palette down there represents my current skill set. I haven't even started attacking this guy yet, so I'm gonna pull out my gun, and jump into some auto attacks. Now these auto attacks, they're my basic attack. You can see there's a, next to my character profile up there. Whoa. [ LAUGH ] Do not take my hand off the game pad itself.

I'm gonna cast quick shield over here and then get in tight on this guy, switch over to my knife. Now when I'm using my arts I'm using up these technical points these TP that power all of my arts I can build up my TP points faster by going into a melee attack. Which brings me in close to the enemy, or I can switch to a ranged attack, that allows me to get farther away from what he's doing. Right, right. And kind of build up points more slowly, but be at a little less risk as I'm, as I'm fighting. Now I keep doing this thing where I'm takin' my hand off the gamepad. That didn't work out so well for me a moment ago.

[ LAUGH ] Well, it raises a really good point, like, battles in Xenoblade on the Wii were real time as well, and anybody who just, who had to played the game already probably recognizing some familiar elements to the, the UI they saw there, that arts palette along the bottom. But, yeah, everything happens in real time, and including those, those B- button events, you know, to get yourself little bonuses. There's no turn- based, you know, waiting for turns, you know, like you see in a lot of more traditional Japanese RPG's. So. I do want to, I want to talk about that quick b button thing we did.

Yeah. That was in the Japanese they are calling it a soul voice. That soul voice is something that your partner shouts out to you in combat. And if I get the timing right I get a benefit. In this case I would have got hit points back. There is no way to, heal other players. Right. By using your arts. Right. You can, you know, you can shield yourself. You can heal yourself, but there is nothing you can do about your, your partners. Yeah. Except with that soul voice. So I need to be paying pretty good attention to what's going on. And I need to be taking advantage of those opportunities. Yep. I am going to grab a few little items as I'm running along here.

If you played Xenoblade Chronicles, you will recognize some of these items as quest based items that you get as you're, as you talk to some of the townspeople in your hub towns. They'll ask you to search for things and you'll find those things for them. It's stuff you grab out in the field. You can also see over the monsters here, their level. Right. That's a good indicator of, like, you know, whether you will be able to take them out at this time. Yeah. I could probably chase those guys down. They look, they look so harmless, though, I want to get to that. Yeah. They're sprinting from you. I want to get to the big open areas here I want to show everyone.

Yeah, no, that's. How expansive this world can be, so I am just going to chase these guys down. Over these guys here you can see a couple symbols there. Right. There is a couple symbols telling you, it's in red so you can tell they are hostile. Right. I can target that guy. It tells you a little bit about how they're gonna detect you, by sight and sound. Right. Yep. And it also tells you, that ring, it tells you that if one of their if one of their kind is attacked in range of another of their kind, he's going to jump and join in on the attack, so I'll be taking on two critters at once, rather than one.

Yep. Let's see if he notices me as I'm running by. I think I got past him. I'm not, I'm not in a hurry to deal with those guys right now when I've got so much more to show you. Saying that it's easy to get distracted in this game is kind of an understatement as you'll see here in a moment. Yeah, the very first thing I did when I walked out into these big open vistas is. Right. Yeah. You know, I had, I knew which was I was supposed to go and how I was supposed to get there, and I immediately turned the wrong way and just charged off to see what I could see. Right. Well yeah, you're always noticing something, like, oh, what's that over there?

Let's go check it out. So you're gonna see the sky clear up, hopefully. I think you're gonna see that. I think that's gonna happen in here. I think she's mentioning that very thing right now. There it is. And then we're gonna see our first, first human settlement, first human explorers who have escaped from the crash as well. Let's take a quick look out over this view. [ CROSSTALK ]. This is seriously one of my, one of my favorite spots. Yeah. You're gonna see some like just amazing things as the clouds dissipate and the fog clears up here. One thing that you're gonna notice hopefully as we're playing right here is that the weather shifts as, as does the time of day.

So we're seeing daybreak now. We're gonna come out into full daylight. But as you're playing, you go through your day and night cycle, and enemy behaviors will change in day and night. You have predators, who are hunting at night. Right. You might see pack animals that are sleeping during that time as well. Right. I think even, you'll get some different enemies that come out at night time. Whoa! Yeah. Someone's waking up. This is. Just amazing creatures in here. Yeah. And, and again it's the creature design and the the variety of them that you see out in the field and how far out you can see them.

Yeah. Which just blows my mind. [ LAUGH ] It's a lot to take in. It is. Yeah. When you get in a escape pod, you know? Yeah, [ CROSSTALK ]. You've been in the pod for who knows how long. And it's kind of a lot to cover. We also have, different weather patterns in the game now. Right? So, you know, if the weather patterns shift, future behavior might shift as well. Yeah. They can become more aggressive or less aggressive. Yeah, so, now I'm just gonna point this out to the the first military installation right over here. Now one interesting thing about this arc ship is that the first people to come out of stasis and start getting into action, it's the military people.

Right. But they know that military people know that they are very good at a specific set of things, but they aldso need a broader range of talents to get civilization back up and running. So one of your tasks is going to be finding your, your farmers, your other crafts people. Yeah. you, your various skill sets to help bolster your your first town's bolster your first town's ability to survive and to sustain itself. So beautiful. Look at that. It's good stuff. Another thing, before I forget to mention it. In Xenoblade I'm, if I remember correctly, each character had a set type of auto- attack.

Where as in this game, every character can switch between melee and range on the fly. Yeah it's. Which, you know, they, they incorporate a lot of, sort of strategic elements, like you were mentioning with the soul voice. The characters you're battling with will call out for you to do a particular type of attack, and you get bonuses for, for following their orders. So she's just explaining this is, this is the ship. This is their, their home base. Now, we've been looking at some scenic vistas for a little bit. Yep. But I want to getting deeper into some combat. It's, yeah, it's time to get busy.

So let's just jump into that. So, she's saying here you could jump down off that cliff if you wanted to, but she doesn't recommend it, not because you're gonna get hurt, fall damage doesn't appear to be a huge problem. Wait, wait, wait, this cliff? The one right here? You could do that. She just said that there's some tough enemies down there, but it's up to you so [ CROSSTALK ] it's really wherever you want to go. [ CROSSTALK ] And that's the thing We've got some people to take out, take a look at over here first. Yeah, yeah. These here's that, that first military installation over here. I'm going to run past these guys, say hello.

Find some new find some new landmarks Right. Not too far from the ship so you'll still be seeing some outposts where people have, have set up stuff. Now I think that's the fastest path for me to get over to the arc. Yeah. It's hard though because I mean, like Ed was just saying if you see it you can pretty much go there. yeah. And we. I did want to get down to those guys. I gotta get down there, cause, you could, you can get a sense of how big they are from up here, but wait. Yeah, just the scale. Just be careful, Rich. Yeah, last time I did this, I got, I got, I got stomped. You accidentally attack one of them?

Yeah. They're not, they're not level one. They're not angry, they're not angry by nature, but if you attack them they, they get a little angry. That's how, that's how it works. But I'm gonna start by taking out a couple of these guys here. Yeah! You can see the one in the back, he is angry, he is aggressive. Right, right. He doesn't see me yet. [ CROSSTALK ] Right now he's facing away from you. Nube. He doesn't see me and his friend doesn't seem to mind me being here. I'm going to start with his less aggressive friend. Right in the rump shot there. Yeah, okay so much for less aggressive. So your switching the, the target around from different parts, different parts on the enemy.

Yeah, so if I move to the back, you can see over in the bottom right of the screen, you can see that I'm, I've got a couple of pieces of information about where I am in relation to the enemy. You can see the first on the side of the slash. I'm in front of, or on the side of, or in back of. The other one, it tells you my ground middle ground, high ground, low ground, so I can tell when I, you know, where I am in relation to them and what advantages I might have. I think as you progress on, they go into more depth about how different positioning can be really advantageous depending on the enemy.

Right. I just used my assault hammer. I wanna point out something about all of these arts. There is a recharge time to all of them. Yep. So I just used it and I am slowly building up the charge again. Right. You are gonna see the charge meter slowly fill up. It's not gonna be so important for this battle, but I think that this angry guy over here, is gonna be a little bit more, and sorry. Yeah, I think he's just grazing, I know. [ LAUGH ] That's just, that's not the official term? That's not official. That's just me? Yeah. That's so unfair to these guys, so, I'm gonna go over here and help my friend, got the soul voice this time ,.

[ CROSSTALK ]. Yeah, it wasn't a tremendous success. If I got the timing perfect then you get a huge boost. Yep. But you can see the assault hammer I've highlighted now. Right, it's almost all the way built up for a second time. That's its second charge. Right. So some of these things have basically a double recharge. Yep. When things have kind of a double recharge they kind of they have a bonus effect that comes into play. So it was hard to see there, but the, the little tool tip here showing that. Once you've let it build up a second time you, it get's like a damage boost, and that varies from art to art.

So, I think with your shield, if you let the shield build up twice you can use it twice in a row. So that's, you know, that adds more depth. People love mastering battle systems and, and customizing things to, to get there, through NPC player characters, you know, doing exactly what they want. Right. They're gonna love this game. There's a lot of, of that type of customization. That guy's a little big, think I'm gonna stay away from the big guy for now. Yeah. Were you gonna go down to the lake? In a minute. Yeah, yeah, I just wanna, wanna wake him up. [ NOISE ] [ INAUDIBLE ] to wake him up, and oh, it's he's up now.

Now I have, because I leveled up, I have earned another art here. Yup. That automatically jumps into my arts palette, Nice. Oh, right, right. That just dropped in, that was the Yeah One you were just using, fire burst I think they're calling it. And having a little bit of a better time with this guy, partially. Great. Because he wasn't expecting me to come at him like that, I. Those, those orange dialogue boxes that keep showing up are you know, your, your partner Elma is calling out to you and like encouraging you to use specific arts and attacks. And there are different triggers for all of those.

Right. Soul voices as you acquire more party members. Just picking up some items, some gear. Yeah. Now I've got a couple items, I'm gonna see if I picked up some stuff I can use. I want to show off some of the character information here. Careful of these menus here cuz they go deep. I get lost. Yeah. I get lost in these menus. So I'm gonna choose Ethan. I've got a couple of different aspects to my character. There's my inner stats. Right. And then there's my class stats. So my inner stats are things that are intrinsic to my character but also the items that I'm carrying. My class stats are dependent obviously on what class I've selected.

Right. Let's step back out of here and go to my items though, real quick. Let's see. Yeah, there you go. Go to my Inner, go to my Character, and it says I've got a couple of new items here. So I'm gonna switch from my my current gun to this new gun that has a thing in Japanese of six, Ethan. That's just the attack power. It's an attack power of six. Yeah, yeah. Thank you. [ CROSSTALK ] I'm gonna switch to that one. You'll see it visibly represented on my character too. Got a good weapon. You can see already though there's sort of stats galore. You know, you can, you can fine tune things all you want if you're into that.

I'm gonna go for a new weapon, or a new body armor here as well which you can see represented on my character too. I don't think Elma's got much new, but I'm gonna see what she. She starts with pretty good. Pretty good stuff. Did you guys give her your old shirt? I think I did. Fair enough. She doesn't want that. You know it's, it's no, it's a little worse than what she had. It's a little worse than what she had. I'll go back to that. And step back out. Let's see, what else can we show off right here? We've got the arts palette. You could look at the Class menu. Now, all of the arts can be leveled up individually.

Right. So you use your the battle points for Yeah, yeah Leveling up each of these arts. I wanna level up my assault hammer. I wanna see if I have the arts for this. Right, basically the more you use them the more you're gonna be able to, to upgrade them. There you go. And then from this screen I can also customize, if I feel like it, I can customize my arts palette. Right. And swap in different arts. I don't have a lot of different arts available to me right now. It's not really gonna mess with that. And progressing with different classes is what's going to earn you more arts and then allow you to sorta mix and match.

Once you've earn the art for that class, you can then sorta hybridise and, and mix those into your, your palette there. I feel like making a huge mistake, Ethan. Really? Yeah. What level are you at? [ CROSSTALK ] Not enough. Not enough, level not enough. Okay, well let's go for it. Alright, now one of the nice things that happens, I might as well set this up now. One of the nice things that happens [ CROSSTALK ] falls in battle. Yeah. Is you can spend your TP, I'm gonna shield myself up here. Yeah. Go with the melee. You got it, Yeah go back to You're not looking [ CROSSTALK ] No I've felt better.

So this might be a good opportunity to show off what happens when one of your characters, oh i missed that, Dies When one of your characters dies ,. You got mowed down. She might have an opportunity to come over and spend TP to resurrect me. Right. If she has enough TP to do this she'll come over Right. She's not in a real hurry right now. So I do have the opportunity to quick start right back where I was. I don't see her coming over my way any time soon. You said she's in no hurry [ CROSSTALK ] She's in zero hurry. She's pretty busy over there. So, I'm gonna take this time to jump back to basically where I was, where I walked back out over the vista.

See what happens when you encourage him to do bad things? [ LAUGH ] This is, you're the little, little guy on my shoulder telling me. The wrong thing to do. No, I made that decision all on my own. so, I'm gonna jump back to not where I was, and I'm gonna take a different path this time to get us down to the lake. Now, let's see, as Ethan mentioned, jumping doesn't do any damage to you. So you got a good fall ahead of you here. Get to see what happens when I just take right off at the edge. I just gotta tell you. I've lived a full life. Can you put the camera up a little bit? Yeah. The view from on top of those waterfalls is exquisite.

Breathtaking? Yeah. We don't have time to get there now, but I'm just saying. We'll work to it. Now I'm just gonna run through an entirely different part of the the map here. I'm gonna head down to the beach. Maybe see if I can jump over these rocks. Yeah, you can. Nice. the jump in this game is pretty, pretty generous. Now, let's see, where was I before when I didn't do so awesome. I did. You were back along the path. Yeah, okay that's. This guy's level 45. So that was level 4. That was level 4. I'm saying we were. Maybe not? I didn't do so hot on level 4 [ CROSSTALK ] And just for the sense of scale there's his toenail.

And there's me. So I'm just gonna. ANd you could attack that guy. I could, but I'm not. The toenail itself is like level 13. So I'm gonna go find someone a little more innocuous over here. We should, we should [ CROSSTALK ] over, over towards the ship. Hey buddy. How you doing? Little level two guy not, not doing anybody any harm. So, I'm gonna take this opportunity to do a little leveling because I know that I am not ready for the. To the end battle and if we have an opportunity to make it to the end battle, I do want to show off. Cool. Made a bad time. Yeah that is tough. Double. The timing is really harsh on those if you're not paying attention, which I am only, only barely managing to do right here.

I'm peripherally paying it. So, I'm gonna see if this guy is, I don't, I don't think I'm doing too bad on him. So, I'm gonna stick with melee. I'm gonna let my assault hammer build up, to its full second, Yup. Recharge. There you go. And then I'm gonna attack with that. Right. And knock it down. Which is always you gotta believe for letting it build up twice. It adds knock down to, to the attack. It works. Yeah. And that helped me to take him out a little bit more easily. Now he was, that was basically like attacking a rabbit though. So Ed, you have, you have played some other open world RPGs.

[ INAUDIBLE ] Right. And that's more of, what's kind of been the recent western trend is to have open world RPGs, and I think. Right. One of the things I'm super excited about is I grew up playing a lot of JRPGs, the Japanese style. Most of them were turn based, and they, they kind of stuck to a formula for a long time. Right. But when the [ UNKNOWN ] Chronicles came out, it was kind of an interesting mesh, you know, between you know, those really deep battle systems and you know I don't know. Just the, the story elements you know, that you would get in a Japanese RPG and the fans of that genre really want, but also the open world exploration that a lot of people kind, have kind of come to expect from other, you know, western developed open world games.

Yeah, I mean, this definitely has, I mean, it's breathtaking, exquisite. You can take your pick of any adjectives that you want. Yeah, yeah. Now the sun is starting to set I think here and you can see a couple of the the moons of the local planet here coming out. Yeah. See where is the other oh there it is right over there. So you are going to get to see a little bit of dusk here. And I'm going to get myself back on track had to take a moment to look around. So yah this will take you to somewhere near where you were before oh I'm going back over to that hi there buddy let's take a look at you He's alright.

That's what you get for surprising me like that oh no. Brutal. Drix. There's numbers. I know. I know. I just. I, I, I startle easily. Not gonna, create a shield before I get exposed, by the way. When did you get that crossbow, by the way? That was my new weapon. Oh. Okay. Because that was the new one that I, that I equipped two months ago. Well. I actually haven't seen that before. Yeah, I, you know? In all the times I've been playing this demo, I haven't seen this one either. [ INAUDIBLE ]. These low level guys, like are not slouches. No, no not by any means. And they turn on you. Right [ CROSSTALK ] And if you find.

Okay. And if you find the ones that. He, he saw me. That will join in that's when things can get out of hand really quick. So as you saw a moment ago, this guy was aggressive. Whoa. He's, he's really aggressive. Moving a little faster than I can keep track of. And he saw me and he jumped into the battle and brought his friend. It is possible to run away. That's okay, no. no. I appreciate your concern, it's very touching. Nicely done. It's an option. It's, there's, there's nothing ignoble about running with my tail between my legs. So just doing my duty. She does keep calling out for melee, melee attack, melee.

Alright so she needs some melee. Okay thanks I appreciate. That seems to be a common, common theme in Delmo. I appreciate the shout alright. I'm gonna get in there for a little melee attack. Right. I'm also gonna shield up here, because now that I'm melee, I'm taking a lot more damage. I've been, I've been hanging back. Last level up. I'm gonna go after the other one over here. Yeah. I think I've just I just got a new art on my, on my palate too. I think I just got a [ CROSSTALK ]. Now that, that battle cry is gonna draw the enemies attention to the [ CROSSTALK ], which if you've been watching my play style, that's the last thing I want.

But if I draw the enemies attention to me, then that gives my partner the opportunity to get in with some other attacks. And if you remember Aggro from Xenoblade Chronicles this is a good offer, you know, it ties in to to the way that Aggro operated in Xenoblade Chronicles. Don't forget you can dash with with the L stick as well. Yeah. If you need to. Yeah, by by clicking down on it. Now I'm gonna see if I can use Aggro, or if I can use battle cry to get this guy's attention. Do they get battle cry on this one? Yeah, there it is. Or wait. No that was not it. My bad. Yeah, that's the next [ UNKNOWN ] I get.

But I was able to knock this flyer out of the sky. And take a few extra pot shots at him while he was down. From there. That is entirely my play style by the way. 100 %. Knock down the enemy and take pot shots. So, what do you think. Do you anticipate playing something like this? Like, eventually, when it comes out? [ CROSSTALK ] I mean, this is something it, you can't, it's so hard to see something with such an epic scale, and not like, feel a draw to it. Yeah, yeah. As a gamer, this is, beyond being gorgeous the, the combat system looks really intricate, but at the same time it seems like you, you're doing a really fluid job, Rich.

Yeah. Of navigating this. I mean it looks really, really interesting. You get the hang of it pretty quickly. I mean the the right stick for camera move, or camera control, left stick for movement. It's, so, it's, it's natural. It feels- Yeah. Really natural. I, right. I think it could, it could look intimidating to people who don't typically play lots of games like this, but to, to just do that, that sort of surface- level battling, especially at the beginning that's required to get, to go forward. It's not, not that tough. Now, I'm bypassing a lot of battle opportunities, here. Yeah. Where I could be leveling.

Yeah. Because I want to see if, I, you think I'm ready for that, that emboss? You've leveled up a couple times. I might take a, I might take a few more opportunities. Yeah, you got a couple of opportunities up here. Yeah. Maybe not, not that level six [ UNKNOWN ] though. Let's I learned my lesson last time on on biting off more than I could chew. I'm gonna get us a little closer in. He's also mostly harmless, so I'm okay leaving him alone for now. He's just trying to eat and I don't want to interrupt that. [ CROSSTALK ] I also want to get you a better, closer view. This is my excuse. [ CROSSTALK ] I want to get a closer view of the city.

So we're coming in on the the city itself. Right. And you can get again a sense of the scale. Yeah. We don't even need [ CROSSTALK ]. Yeah. So let's get in there and I feel like I need to grind a little bit more. You can see though that there are less enemies wandering around right now because it's night time. I really, really ought to grind a bit more before I get into this. I'm a little nervous here Ethan. Oh, you'll be fine, hey you're gonna be okay. We're about fifty fifty on this boss battle. Oh you're going for it. I'm going for it. Okay, here we go. We've been 50 / 50 on this so. Alright.

Let's see which way the coin, the coin falls on this. Ladies and gentlemen. She's saying it looks a lot bigger up close. Lots of people have moved in, made it, made it home. Now this, there's some good, there's some good tension on this scene, so I'm not going to jump out of this. So this is the west gate of the city. Right now it's closed up for safety. [ FOREIGN ] And so in, in order to get in, you're gonna have to take an elevator rather than just go through the main gate. oh. Before I get to that elevator [ CROSSTALK ] I'm going to have this guy and a couple of his friends to, to contend with.

She's surprised to see aggressive enemies like this so close to to the city. Cuz we're going Cuz [ CROSSTALK ] there is in fact [ CROSSTALK ] We're on our way to neo- LA. I'm a little surprised to see these guys so close to the city too, because again, there's a military installation not more than a couple hundred feet from me right now. All right. But I think they wanna make sure I'm, I'm- You're worthy? Okay. Okay. All right. Run away. Run away. Run away. So I'm a remind you upfront. You see down on the bottom it says hit the pless button to do battle menu. Uh- huh. So if you bring up the battle menu on the right there- Bring up the battle menu.

There's gonna have a lot of options that you can give orders to you NPCs. And I believe the second one from the top is. Basically focus fire so you're npc's will make sure to attack the enemy that you're attacking. Okay we took down one of them. Yeah. We're feeling pretty good so far. I think you're gonna be alright. I don't wanna jinx it though. Yeah seriously, what are, what are you doing? Did you have, did you have her focus fire? I'm gonna need you to point me through that. Yeah, so, so bring up the battle menu. Second from the top. This is bad. I can't see it anywhere. Okay, second from the top.

You got it. Alright, focus fire. Okay. We got it. [ NOISE ] So, so that'll just insure that she's gonna attack your target. Good. Okay, so we're gonna take this guy out. Keep it loose right there. Took him out. Oh, that was faster. They get, they get a lot faster once you've completed a few of them. And you can see what that's doing each time you complete one of those raising that soul stage. I am having some trouble with those later ones. And the soul stage is gonna, the higher it is, is going to give you more, more bonuses during the battle. And the reason they get more difficult to complete is that.

The that soul stage meter's gonna go down overtime so you just can't raising it up. Alright so. [ CROSSTALK ] That's the quickest I've seen you do that. It is. Nice work. I like the way you've got the borealis work going on up there. Nice. So she thought that they landed in a relatively safe area, but. You know, for every, for every friendly race that there is in, in space, there's, there's bound to be some ones that are more hostile as well. [ FOREIGN ] I love the feel of this game. It's very much like, hm. Not only do you discover that you're not alone out in space, but you also discover that whatever's out there doesn't really care about you.

[ LAUGH ] Oh yeah. It doesn't really care for you. Yeah, space doesn't really care. So now we're getting a good opportunity to take a look out over Space is not your friend. No space is not, is not your friend. Take a look out over Neo Los Angeles from the outside. More items. And we're gonna see if we can get up that elevator to give you a deeper view of what Neo Los Angeles looks like. Yeah, let's go check it out. It's sort of a, an extensive cut scene that's gonna give you a flavor for what you're looking at inside this first hub, your, your hub town basically. So that's the west gate up ahead of us.

But as Elmo was telling us, the gate is sealed right now. Right. And you see our military installation right here keeping guard just over the gate and not over us as we approach the gate. [ LAUGH ] Right. I really could have used their help a minute ago but that's. I think she's kind of giving, giving some word up ahead that you're coming in. Bringing in some survivors. Sense of scale again, just take a quick look around. Yeah, it's. it really is pretty impressive when you get up close. Yeah, and I'm gonna go up here. And you can jump around on all that stuff. Like, you know, if you're somebody who loves to explore, and kind of see if it's possible to go places.

A lot of times games won't let you do that, you know, you'll run up against an invisible wall that, that prevents you from going places. But, that's really, as far as I've been able to tell, that's really not the case in this. There we go. Yeah, I've spent a lot of time just exploring this opening area long before I even get to that boss battle. yah One thing I love about this elevator here is it gives me an opportunity to show you how far off you can see. right it's another vantage point like. I think we came from way over there, we can't see in the rain now, but ,. Yeah, the rain is poorly timed in fact the weather pattern you know, we don't control the weather here.

That's right. But you do get an opportunity to look out over tip of the yard, the space out there. Yeah. There's that guy that we visited earlier. Yeah, yeah. The guy who's Nice guy, nice guy. Actually that, he's a little bit closer than the other one. There a. Okay, you're right you're right. There's a lake down there that you would be able to see across. Yeah. If it just hadn't started raining on us. I'm not totally sure what the deal is with these sort of crystal spikes that seem to have sprung up where the ship landed. I don't know if that's something that's going to be explained later in the game, but it's, it's definitely intriguing.

Now we did talk a little bit about the class system. Before I go through that gate, kick into this this cut scene. Yes. I do wanna show off some of the class system here. Yeah. Let's see, character, class. Yeah, that's it. You'll be able to change through any number of classes. Each character has a Class set that they can cycle through. Right. We're right here at the opening class at Drifter. Then I'll be able to specialize into a couple of different classes. Class names aren't final, of course, but it gives you a sense of what their function is gonna be within the game. And then that also shows you a little bit of what their arts palate is.

Right, [ CROSSTALK ] and the type of arts you're gonna earn. Yeah, as you get deep, as you level up you get more of those arts. Yeah. And then you can specialize even more. Now, one different thing about Xenoblade Chronicles X is that you can change classes on the fly even mid battle. Yes. Yeah. So if there's if there's a an arts palette set that you want to have access to. Right. That you don't have access to right now, you can change classes out and jump from a defensive attacker to a heavier attacker. Right. If there's something that you find yourself needing desperately you'll be able to switch classes on the fly.

Jump straight out into a, a different class and use those abilities. Yep. And if I'm understanding everything correctly and, you know, it's it's a pretty complicated game with, with all the things you can do. If I'm understanding correctly though you can, once you've earned those arts for each class, you can then you know, mix and match. Right? And kind of build your own class. Mix and match, yeah. And really specialize your character to suit your own gameplay style. My, my cowardly base attack entirely depended on striking enemies when they're unawares or perhaps feeding on, you know, grains and and fauna.

You do love, you do love to get the enemies that are, seem to be the most peaceful. Or flora rather, but yeah. Yeah. So we're walking out into neo- Los Angeles for the first time. Oddly enough, here we are in, in real Los Angeles. In, in Old Los Angeles. [ INAUDIBLE ] Los Angeles. Which just looks. It looks so, so dingy now that we see, we get our first glimpse of new Los Angeles. Old Los Angeles just doesn't compare. I know, it just doesn't measure up anymore. Yeah. I'm, I'm sorry L. A ., I'm sorry. [ FOREIGN ] I'm gonna have to apologize for, it's holding Los Angeles online aren't they? Okay, it's okay.

I love it so much though. So, here we have a view out of neo Los Angeles that's gonna come up as soon as Elma finishes you know. She is just kind of explaining about the city you know, this was, it was kind of a model city to begin with, but it's become a you know, real living place that they have to use. So welcome to new Los Angeles Rich. Now we're going to end this demo here on a fly over of Neo Los Angeles where you'll get a chance to check out this entire explorable area. It's already vast. Just all on its own, this is a gigantic space that you can wander freely throughout. As we mentioned, it's a hub town.

You get quests here. You see, you see your first giant mech here. These are gonna become and integral component of gameplay much later on, of course. But you also see some really interesting, more mundane things. Just, these are the survivors trying to, trying to live on this alien world. So she's, she's talking about the fact that, you know, this is really mankind's last, last hope. And, and it sounds like they have been here for a couple of months before you have come on the scene. Yeah, before you get thawed. And she's explaining that well it's still really a work in progress, they've really hardened up their desire to, to make this home for, you know, the future.

[ FOREIGN ] and here we go one big fly by and Big swoop There you go Wow Yeah That's awesome You have Los Angeles in all its glory. Well Rich, were about out of time Yeah Just wanna say thanks for stopping by You bet. [ INAUDIBLE ] I'd even look here on Xenoblade Chronicles apps. Yup. Thanks for having us on. If you like what you see, I, I hope people are excited, because there is a lot to this game. Yeah, it looks really good. I'm excited to do a little deeper dive. Yeah. Because like, I think it's going to be exciting, it's gonna be good. Awesome. I appreciate it, thank you. Up next, don't go anywhere.

We got Hyrule Warriors coming up. And we might have a special guest with us as well. All right, Nintendo Treehouse, live at E3. Don't go anywhere. Thanks.
