## Transcript

>> I'm Rebecca Keegan for TIME. com in the Santa Monica, California offices of Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Top Gun, and CSI TV shows. Mr. Bruckheimer, whose latest movie, G- Force, opens July 24th, is taking questions from TIME readers.

>> First question comes from T. J. in Longview, Washington, who asks, " With all the action seen in your previous works, what can we expect to see in G- Force ?"

>> Well, yeah, a lot of action, except they're guinea pigs this time that are doing the action. So, it's a little different, but it's an action- packed film just like our big- event movies. This is an event movie, but it uses the digital little guinea pigs.

>> Uh- huh.

>> So, it's-- we bring our action and storytelling ability to the little kids.

>> Is this your first 3D movie?

>> It is. It is. I've never done this before and I think it's one of the best 3D movies out there because we have so much of it in there.

>> Uh- huh.

>> I think it's got more 3D shots in any movie ever made.

>> This next question is from James in Brisbane, Australia, who asks, " What's the best way to boost the movie industry ?"

>> Make good films. That's the only way. As long as we make really good, engaging films that people wanna go see and are entertained by them, like the Hangover, we'll keep making, you know, a lot of movies and the audiences will flock to the theaters.

>> So, a lot of people are looking to 3D as a way to boost the industry. Do you see that as a potential or is it really about the quality of the movie itself as opposed to the technology?

>> It's always about the quality of the movie. I mean, 3D certainly is an enhancement, great sound is an enhancement. We just-- G- Force is a 3D movie and it really adds to the experience of watching the movie. It's much more exciting in 3D, but it works in 2D too.

>> Well, that leads us to a question from Jimmy Kain in Shanghai, who asks, " How can you tell which scripts will make good films ?"

>> You don't really know. I mean, you just go with your gut and hope that, you know, all the years of experience of making movies, you have good instincts about the material that you like and wanna bring to an audience and make a big movie out of it.

>> Our next question comes from James Vega in Chicago who asks, " From National Treasure to Confessions of a Shopaholic to Bad Boys, and now, to a project like G- Force, your work in film has been very diverse. Is there a type of film you haven't done yet that you really wanna do?

>> I think, you know, we keep exploring new things. You know, I haven't done a real thriller for a long time. So, I think if there's something that we're thinking about doing, it's another thriller.

>> Expect your office mail to now be flooded with--

>> Yeah.

>> potential thrillers. This question comes from Brent Kossina in Orlando, Florida, who asks, " A lot of times you hear about producers interfering in a director's vision for a film. Why do producers get such a bad rap in Hollywood ?"

>> I guess, you know, you always look at, sometimes, the authority figure as something you wanna get around. It depends on how you do it, you know. In our case, when we make movies, usually, the director and the producer and the studio are all on the same page of the movie that they wanna make. It's only when one of the participants in the process is making a different movie.

>> Uh- huh.

>> And hopefully, you work all those things out before you make the film. So, this shouldn't be a problem.

>> This one comes from Dexter Coronado in the Philippines who asks, " Do you get defensive when people talk about your work as escapist entertainment? Do you think mainstream action blockbuster movies can be a form of art ?"

>> No, I don't think-- I don't get offended at all. I think, you know, what I try to do is entertain people and that if there are big blockbusters that are fun for people to watch and take them away from their daily lives, that's-- then I've completed my job and done what I set out to do.

>> As you can imagine, we got a lot of people who were curious about getting their own screenplays made and what advice you might have for them. One question comes from Stewart Stafford in Dublin who asks, " Is there any chance of an unknown writer getting a script into production or even read by a studio ?"

>> Of course. There've been plenty of instances of writers who come to Hollywood. Every writer in Hollywood came from somewhere--

>> Uh- huh.

>> and started with their first screenplay and got recognition, or at least, if the movie didn't get made, it at least got noticed by somebody, by a producer or an agent. And if they're prolific and keep working at it, they're gonna do it.

>> A lot of people wanted to know this question. This person in Nottingham asks, " Are we really gonna see Pirates of the Caribbean 4 ?"

>> God, I hope so. I can't wait to see it. So, we are working on a screenplay right now, and hopefully, that will come together. But, you know, these things are difficult to get right. Although we know Johnny is interested in doing this, so that's a good start.

>> That is a good start. This one comes from Max in Orlando, Florida, who asks, " Does knowing the top secrets of movie magic ever take some of the fun out of watching the final cut of a movie ?"

>> Never. It's always about great storytelling and great characters, you know. When you see a really wonderful movie-- I saw Public Enemies last night and it's just a brilliant film. And even though there's technique in it, you're not aware of the technique because the characters are so engaging.

>> And is that the case on your own films as well or once you've seen them over and over again through the filmmaking process of you?

>> Well, you're more critical, of course, of your own films and, you know, you do watch the technical part of it. But in the first few screenings, it's all about the story and the characters.

>> All right. Well, those are all the questions we have for you.

>> Thank you. Thanks, Rebecca.

>> Thank you very much.

>> Thank you very much.
