## Transcript

Fifteen years after the premiere of 'Gilmore Girls', show creator Amy Sherman- Palladino said she doesn't think the show would be greenlit today. During her panel at Austin's ATX Television Festival, Sherman- Palladino told the audience," Today you don't sell 'Gilmore Girls.'... Nobody would buy it. It wouldn't happen ." She went on to credit the WB Network, which is now The CW For seeking out original voices and unique series which let to series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek and yes, Gilmore Girls. Sherman Paladino argues today the major TV networks are too focused on maintaining their brand to give show runners the same level of creative freedom.

One of those creative choices included casting Melissa Mccarthy for the role of Suki something Sherman- Paladino had to fight for, it was a tricky sell and it took awhile, she is different and different is sometimes not the easiest to embrace. You are a spy. I know. We all know how that casting call worked out The actresses latest big film, Spy, debuted this weekend to strong reviews and an estimated 32 million dollars at the box office. That casting choice might not have gone through in today's TV market, according to Sherman Paladino. But even if Gilmore Girls wouldn't make it to network TV 2015, it might not need to.

Online streaming services hungry for original content have approved or rescued several bold TV shows. That didn't make it to the networks. Think Orange is the New Black or the revival of Arrested Development. And Gilmore Girls itself is enjoying a resurgence thanks to Netflix after all. Sherman- Palladino's remarks came ahead of a big Gilmore Girls reunion panel at the ATX Festival. The show first premiered on October 5, 2000.
