Here, the vast majority of the money is not going to the charity, it's going to a for profit outfit and it's important there be transparency in that relationship. While Savers is a for profit thrift shop, the store also accepts donations for charity. It has partnerships with several charities around the country. When people donate to Savers, the items are sold in the store and a portion of the profit is supposed to be given to charity. But Attorney General Lori Swanson alleges in this report. Savers pockets the large majority of the profits from these donated items. Giving charities pennies on the dollar. The report says customer cannot donate to specific causes or charities of their choosing. And lastly, the report says, Savers is giving tax. Credits to donors that do not accurately reflect how much was donated. Swanson says in the report, Three bedrock principles of charities law are to respect the intent of the donor, protect charitable assets, and be transparent. This report identifies deficiencies in all three areas. No charges have been filed by Swanson, but she is offering the evidence up to the IRS, moling word charges against the company. As for Savor's, it issued a statement to WCCO, in Minneapolis, which says in part. We will continue to work closely with the Attorney Generals office along with our partners to address any concerns.
