## Transcript

>> In 1991, The Soviet Union crumbled. Military engagement began in Baghdad. Major events seen live, on CNN.

>> There might have been more and more trace around very close. The time here is about 20 minutes, three in the morning. I'm getting a wave from the-- from the window here now, and I could see more and more trace around--

>> That was the year of the Gulf war, the first one, and CNN had the exclusive coverage in Baghdad of the-- of the war in Iraq and at least, for a while. And that was-- that was a major breakthrough in history. No foreign news organization had ever been allowed to televise behind enemy lines in the time of war.

>> Something is happening outside.

>> Ted Turner believed that a global news company could change the way we see the world. He was right. And for that reason, he was named TIME's Man of the Year. What does it mean to you, now?

>> Another milestone. Major one, major milestone.

>> We sat down with Ted as his new book was hitting stores and had a wide range of conversation.

>> One right thing that we should absolutely do; first foremost with full speed, and that's to covert our entire energy system over the clean renewable energy--

>> He was typically candid. Have you talked to Boone Pickens at all about his plans?

>> I have talked. Have I talked to Boone Pickens? What do you think I am? Stupid? Remember, I am TIME's Man of the Year, I was the only TIME's Man of the Year to ever work at TIME and they let me go. What makes it a few things in the book-- What I-- I didn't want to hammer the company, I love the company. And I still got a lot of friends working here, and I wish the company the very-- the very best. If I can make peace with Murdoch I could surely make peace here. But I am hurt still. I'll go to my grave hurt and a little bit better, really, because it was so stupid, and so wrong. It was in my opinion, anyway.

>> Tell me what you thought of the cover of Man of the Year when you're on it.

>> It was a little crowded.

>> You would prefer it maybe just a straight, head shot?

>> Well, you know, it was up to you to do.

>> Who do you think it should be this year and if you think--

>> Our president- elect.

>> And, why?

>> For so many different reasons. The fact that he's gonna be the president, chief executive officer of the super power, and his historic breakthrough as far as being able to, well, overcome race to be president of United States.
