That's my favorite movie. It was the first time I saw a film as opposed to a movie. I think before that, my experience with movies were you know, shoot em up, bang, bang. Just really like, either broad, or a light and it was the first time I saw a film with acting that was so real, I forgot that I was watching a film. I was completely drawn in by the characters, by the story, by the setting. And by the end I was crying. And it was the first film that I, that I think I ever cried at. I'd never cried at any film before that, and it was when I watched that film, I knew. This is why I want to be an actor. This is the kind of work that I want to do. And so, that was the first time I saw something that kind of, I knew I wanted to act before then, but I saw, I saw firsthand, what kind of acting I wanted to do. And from then, what went on, it's just been doing more and more things that kind of have made the picture clearer and clearer and clearer. And then we got to Pariah, which, has made everything super clear. So, yeah, Robert Duvall in The Apostle. I submitted my picture to be an extra so when I got the call, I got the call to be, you know, to come in for Alike. I was very excited and it was just one of those things when I read the script it just, I just knew what this, I just knew what this character was about. And so I brought my little brothers clothes, and just took it from there. And the character I play, Alike, is just very vulnerable and she is at a point in her life where she, she is just trying to be who she wants to be and is, is exhau -, is tired of the, of the juggling and so. You know, we have all been teenagers, if you're older, obviously. And, and as an actor you just kinda throw yourself into any character as you would, you know, in this, in this case it just happened to be, she just happened to be 17. And whether it's a young girl who, who knows she loves women or is into boys. That wasn't the hard part. The hard part was being in a open and vulnerable space. Because it's an uncomfortable place to be. And, you now, where we see Alike, she's just, she's trying to figure out. She gets knocked back down, she gets back up again. And just searching, so, just searching to live life on her own terms. I went to Cornell, and I was pre- med, and full intent to be a doctor. And then middle of my junior year, my father passed away. And it was like everything just stopped and it was, it made me really think about life, because he was young and it was sudden. And I asked myself but what, what is it that I really want to do? And I realized I was doing it because of him. And acting came up, and I took an acting class my senior year, and I loved it. It was challenging, but the kind of challenge that you just wanna continuously throw yourself into and I just, I just knew. Told my mom I'm not going to med school. I'm gonna be an actor. And she thought I was crazy but I mean if you know what you wanna do, you have no choice. Hopefully you feel like you have no choice but to pursue it, but I think a lot of people kind of stop at the dreams and they get scared and they don't pursue it. It's not easy but for me I had no choice. So, I had to do it.
