## Transcript

>> Everything that's available to do isn't a good idea. There's a culture right now that as soon as I " Hey you get to do that. I'm gonna do it ."

>> This week, Louis C. K ., the comedian who created and stars in the Emmy Award winning comedy Louis for FX signed a development deal to develop and produce TV pilots and series for FX. This deal means that you can find and cultivate other very first- person voices. This is a model for how maybe you can't make all television in the future, but a way that you can make a lot of television if you find the right people with the right voice like Louis C. K. has. TV is generally a very collaborative medium that's made by a lot of hands. There is generally not a writer, but several writers and many producers and many directors.

>> Jesus. That is-- you don't need a doctor. You need a time machine. Louis C. K.-- when they hired him to do a show, he would make a show for them basically out of petty cash. He would do it for a small enough amount of money, that it didn't have to go through the usual sequence of procedures that network shows generally do, and in exchange for making the show on the cheap, he would have, you know, nearly absolute freedom. It's simply his vision and his voice, and a lot of times in creative work, its specificity and voice that-- that makes it work great; that makes it distinctive.

>> How can-- That is really bad. That is disgusting.

>> I don't really think that you guys are understanding the severity of the situation. I have been dating someone who treats my heart like it's monkey meat.

>> There is a really good analogy between Louis and Lena Dunham's girls, which Lena Dunham has said is, in some ways, inspired by the way that Louis C. K. kind of took that indie film approach to television. One reason that there haven't been more Louis C. K. 's in TV history is that there haven't been enough TV big shots willing to hire them and give them a platform. Now, Louis C. K. gets to be one of those big shots.
