What are people getting wrong about LinkedIn? Everything that's possible to get wrong about LinkedIn. [ MUSIC ] So, I think the way you get LinkedIn to work for you and your career is to be active. It really isn't a matter of getting that perfect resume that's up there, and then leaving it. It is a matter of being engaged. And so, going on and looking at who they suggest that you might know and connecting with them. Connect with your friends. Connect with your colleagues. Connect with people you used to work with. Connect with people you used to go to school with. And then engage through sharing on the timeline.

And really think about that personal brand when you're doing it. Right, you don't want to be sharing on a timeline something that doesn't have anything to do with your industry or anything to do with your specialty, but something that really is core to what you do. Sharing new articles about that, commenting on them. You know, you now have the capability of LinkedIn to write yourself. I wrote an article on LinkedIn. About what I wanted my daughter, and what I wanted young women to know in the age of Trump. That one exploded, too, when Trump won. And so it was using my experience as a woman in business, with what was topical that was going on, where people were looking for some direction.

And you're not gonna believe this, But this Thanksgiving my two nieces both told me that that article was taught in their gender classes at two different universities. And so, when you look at the impact you can have by being engaged and social and bringing your experience and particularly bringing the cross- section of your experience and something that's topical where people are looking for it. You can really, really raise your professional profile in a way you just weren't able to five and certainly ten years ago. I actually found the chief investment officer of Ellevest on LinkedIn. I actually thought I knew every chief investment officer given the years that I've worked on Wall Street, but no one was quite right and so, I went through and looked for certain keywords.

Asset allocation experience, portfolio manager chief investment officer, FinTech, technology. What I was trying to put together is who is somebody who's got the experience in finance and the experience in startups that can come and work to build Ellevest with me. And if the individual, Sylvia Kwan, who's our Chief Investment Officer, had not had those key keywords in her profile never would have popped up for me. So, you know, my advice would be if you think about the next job you want, it could be at your company, it could be at your company, that next job you want- look a little bit in some of the searches on LinkedIn, some of the jobs Jobs that are posted there.

And what are the words they're using, right? And so then what words should be in your profile. And then remember that intro, right? And think about your best qualities, the ones that make you most relevant for a company and make sure they're right up there. [ MUSIC ]
