## Transcript

>> Facebook is now experimenting with autoplay video advertisement. Sponsored video content will start appearing in some newsfeeds this week as Facebook test out the new ads. Each video will start playing automatically without sound. Users can click or tap to watch it with sound as intended, or just move past it. The ads are Facebook's first official move into a market that's traditionally been dominated by television, which still holds the lime chair of the advertising market. Numbers from Nielsen showed as of July, it accounted for 59 % of worldwide ad spending. And while the internet is in 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th place, it seemed the most growth this year of any segment.

Facebook appears to be in good position to take advantage of this online growth. In a presentation to ad partners that leaked to the press last week, Facebook says, these days it reaches more of certain target demographics than even television. But full speed ahead isn't the way to go here. Since rumors of Facebook video ad started, industry watchers have pointed out, the social network will have to strike a balance.

>> They're really trying to thread a very-- a very small needle here. In terms of on the one hand, they're trying to create a new business out of video ads and on the other hand, they're trying not to frustrate user it's because--

>> Those users aren't required to watch the ads of course. Each video can be swiped or scrolled past without triggering sound. And Mashable says; that means those who do clicked to listen to the ad will be more valuable to brands because they've opted in to the experience. For Time, I'm Carissa Loethen.
