## Transcript

I know a lot of Broadway musicals now. They like to have their sound charts on sale, as soon as they open. However, we're an original musical, and we were still-- we were using the preview process to continue to make changes to the score, to the orchestrations, so we didn't have a sound. We never recorded a sound chart off Broadway, when we ran for six months of Broadway. And then, I sort of delayed it as much as possible because, you know, I wanted to continue to make changes up until the very last minute, you know, it's not-- it's not done when it's finished. It's done when they tell you its purpose, and so, you know, I wrote a new song, the day before we started previews, the Piragua Reprise, which in along disc two.

And so then we recorded the soundtrack about 3 weeks after opening night. Well, you know, it's just a very different sound. The show uses hiphop music. The show uses Latin music. So we've got more percussionists per capita than any other Broadway show. I think we probably have about as many as the line. We have 3 full on percussionists and they're all-- you know, Octopi, using their arms as much as possible. It's our ambassador; it's literally our cultural ambassador. We have-- I get people at the stage door who are here from Tokyo, who come from Australia, with their only access is YouTube videos that we post.

And YouTube videos of the Tony Awards, or the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and this cast album, which like all the cast albums I loved, is 2- dics. And has all the lyrics because I was always so grateful whenever that was the case. I can sing along and figure out what they were saying. Particularly, in this show, there's so much rap. It's really helpful to read along. And so, it really is our cultural ambassador around the world. They are people who have fallen in love with the show, who will never get a chance to see it on Broadway. But they have their 2- discs set. But there is something about getting the original cast, the one that we did the original rehearsal, 5- week process with, and hearing that from [ unk ] that-- that will outlast us and so it's-- that's why it's really exciting to be nominated for the Grammy because it's such a labor of love.
