## Transcript

>> Legislation that Vladimir Putin assigned into law that was passed unanimously by the Russian Duma.

>> We chose Georgia Tech because we want to do the impossible.

>> It's that dreaded time of year again, back to school. Fortunately, freshmen at Georgia Tech were greeted with an epic welcome speech.

>> If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

>> Nick Selby took the stage to deliver an over- the- top oration complete with his own theme music.

>> Our tradition of excellence.

>> As the song swelled, so there is enthusiasm until he was shouting at the top of his lungs.

>> If you wanna play theme music during your convocation speech like a badass. We're at Georgia Tech. We can do that. I am doing that.

>> The audience, well, they seemed completely stunned. The anchors on the state- funded Russia Today TV Network were equally stunned by one of their guests this month. Journalist James Kirchick was asked to discuss the weekly league's trials, but instead, he hijacked his appearance to go on a rant about Russia's new Anti- Gay Propaganda Laws.

>> Gonna speak out against the horrific Anti- Gay Legislation that Vladimir Putin assigned into law that was passed unanimously by the Russian Duma.

>> The host tried to steer him back to the topic at hand.

>> What about Bradley manning first?

>> I-- you know, I don't-- I'm not really interested in talking about Bradley Manning. I'm interested in talking about the horrific environment of homophobia in Russia right now. And I don't know as a journalist how you can go to sleep at night.

>> But Kirchick continued his tongue- lashing for nearly 2 minutes, proudly clad in rainbow suspenders before the network finally pulled the plug. Russian broadcasters would never pull the plug on our next clip though. The Russian army choir stopped by a morning television show to deliver a stunning rendition of Adele's song Skyfall.

>> Let the sky fall, when it crumbles. We will stand tall.

>> Their ill- fitting uniforms and a few missed words here and there all melted away as their passionate deep voices belted out the song.

>> When it crumbles we will stand tall and face it all together at sky fall.

>> Another song that wowed us this month came courtesy of folk rockers Mumford & Sons.

>> So when your hopes on fire--

>> Hey, wait. That's not Mumford.

>> but you know your desire.

>> The British band's new video for Hopeless Wanderer was hijacked by some Hollywood bigwigs, Ed Helms, Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte. The quartet got into full folks of getups and grabbed banjos and drums to belt out the new song. As expected, some crazy antiques in suit. It's very possible you're watching this right now on your cellphone. Yes, we take them everywhere. We're always checking Facebook, taking pictures, texting and generally missing out on life. At least that's what Charlene deGuzman's short film shows us. And it made us all scorned. It made us long for those moments without a phone.

She even titled it " I Forgot My Phone ." Maybe that's something we should all purposely do. For TIME, I'm Nick Carbone.
