## Transcript

Wow. We're here our second year in a row, recognizing and celebrating our Latino leaders. And they're reshaping America. Audiences are frustrated with the lack of originality in Hollywood. They're desperate for novelty for new, exciting ideas, authentic storytelling. And I think this is where we, as an underrepresented community can really step in. We know our stories are not risks. This oversaturation in the entertainment industry, the lack of originality everyone's so upset about. It's actually an exciting opportunity for us. What an amazing time to have a unique perspective. We have the chance to tell stories that haven't been told yet, to hire talented artists that haven't been discovered yet, and to help bridge the gap of the human experience.

We shouldn't stop until everybody in this country, not only Latinos, until everyone in the country knows that Hispanics are positive contributors to the country, that we are the economic driving force of America. And I think that we should all join forces to change the perception of Latinos, because perception is reality. And we need to chance the reality to reflect what we are. Within you, working its way through your veins, and in your DNA is the power of a people who do not just survive, but thrive, who do not stop, only know how to press on, who only fall in order to get stronger by getting back up, who achieve greatness, not despite any obstacles, but because those obstacles inspired us to conquer them.

And so your job, future generations is to take our dreams, build on them. Make more love. Make bigger dreams, so that you can inspire a new generation to do the same. Latino sometimes think they won't succeed, especially in a leadership position. They think if they're too authentic, if they're too passionate. I hear that a lot, by the way. Oh, I have to tone down my passion. I don't want to be too Latino. And I have really now started to make it a real part of my journey to help those young Latinos erase that from their mind. I believe that authenticity is our superpower and that we cannot succeed without this superpower.

I believe my superpower is my passion. I don't want to tone it down. My passion is how I live my life. Time Magazine has always meant a lot to me. And when I think about when I was starting out, I think you have to be really poor because, you know, I was a huge fan at Eddie Murphy's. And in the early 80s, he was on the cover of T, and I didn't steal the magazine. I went and made a Xerox copy of the article, and then I stapled it together. And that was my time magazine at that time.
