## Transcript

>> The E3, the biggest video game conference of the year in the US just days away. Sony invited TIME at the PlayStation offices in California for an early test drive of PlayStation Move. Move is PlayStation's answer to the Nintendo Wii, which debuted in 2006 on one over millions of non- gamers with intuitive motion control.

>> Hi. I'm Peter Ha, the technology editor for TIME and we're at Sony PlayStation headquarters in Foster City California and I'm about to check out Move with Anton. So, I'm holding this.

>> Yeah, so this is a small demo that we show just to kinda give you a picture of how the system is working.

>> Okay.

>> So we have the PlayStation Eye, which is looking for the glowing spheres.

>> Okay.

>> Nice and squishy. So that's how we actually try the controllers. So the camera is looking for the sphere and you can find it in 3D space and then put it right into your hands. So when you see the video, you see the object in your hand. You know, it's on full 3D so as you get closer, you know, the object gets bigger and of course have all the different rotations, etc.

>> Oh, cool. What was Anton and I tested out PlayStation Move, the biggest difference I noticed the incredible level of accuracy.

>> So this is the simple thinking demo, where we kinda show the precise tracking. I'm using the press the sensitive T- button on the back to control the thickness of the painting so I can make like a very thick brush stroke or, you know, very fine one. You know, it's very much accurate enough to write your name or whatever. You know--

>> So you've done this before. While this is only a demo built specifically for TIME, it shows what PlayStation Move is capable of like streaming multiple windows, you can watch YouTube videos in one, surf web on another, play a game or even watch NetFlix all at the same time making Move more than just a video game console.

>> I'll show you a little bit more so, you know, you could have a web page, for example up in the corner.

>> Uh- hmm.

>> You can have, you know, PlayStation Store. The new thing about this is, this is all in 3D and, you know, right now it still kinda feels like it's a 2D image but we have this other ability where we can actually look down from the people of the controller so it's like a camera. So when I press this button, you're gonna see what you see from the point of that controller.

>> Wow.

>> So this really-- you can really see the full 3D aspect of this.

>> Well, Techland's Evan Narcisse and I are hardcore gamers. We couldn't help giggle and squirm as we play with EyePet, a virtual creator but not only interacts with PlayStation Move controller but also the Eye to Eye camera.

>> So right now the EyePet is, you're petting the EyePet and he's gonna get comfortable enough and happy enough with you then he may flip over on his belly. And he does have a personality. The more you play with him, the more he'll play with you so if you're not aggressive but if you're active, he's gonna stay more active.

>> Now to lather him up, you have to rub your hands behind it so break-- take your hands. I was getting very, very [ unk ]. He really likes the soap. Okay.

>> He's jumping [ unk ].

>> Sony isn't the only one with the Motion Sensing system coming out this year. Microsoft's project [ unk ], a controller free full- body motion sensing camera add on to the Xbox 360, meaning that this year's E3 are shaping up to be a slugfest between the big three. Game on.
