## Transcript

This is the part where I say I know of not one reason Paula Deen's making a comeback, but 75 million reasons. But, seriously, Paula Deen just landed a deal worth at least $ 75 million. The Wall Street Journal reports private equity firm Najafi Companies is putting $ 75 to $ 100 million into Deen's new brand Paula Deen Ventures betting she can overcome a controversial past. Deen rose to become one of the most popular celebrity chefs in the country with her seemingly trademark use of huge amounts of butter. But Food Network dropped her last year after she admitted to using racist language in the past including the N word.

Tearful network apologies followed, but Deen still lost endorsement deals, a publisher cancelled a planned cookbook, and Walmart and Target refused to carry her cooking products. So, is Deen worth what could be a 9 figure investment? Of all the word she could have said, many analysts note the one she did used is the hardest to overcome in American's eyes. But Jahm Najafi, who owns a stake in the Phoenix Suns, believes Deen will be fine. He told the Wall Street Journal the important thing to remember is that her fan base is rabid. Her Facebook fan base has more than doubled in the past year. The Paula Deen brand is alive and well.

Well, Deen did just say in December she'd be really, really happy to see 2013 gone-- looks like you're getting your wish, Paula. While Paula Deen Ventures' chief executive says he's talking deals with TV networks and retail chains, he declined to identify any by name. Thanks for watching. I'm Cliff Judy.
