[ MUSIC ] I don't think any of our friends or family were surprised that we bought a home, before getting married. They've seen our relationship, and were part of it in a way, and knew we were really committed to each other. And I think they were mostly just really excited and happy for us. Yeah. To our new home. Charles and I have been together for five and a half years. And we're just getting around to getting married, and a lot of our friends are in the same boat. We were both living in D. C ., and we enjoyed our time there, but we're exploring new cities and new job opportunities. We talked about our careers a lot and Career goals.

I wanted to be in more technical field and I thought that engineering [ UNKNOWN ] in Seattle. We also started talking about trips that we wanted to take together and prioritizing those. And budgeting and planning for them. And, I think it was just uncharted territory. I hadn't really had concrete financial discussions with anyone, but my parents. [ INAUDIBLE ] We started thinking about Buying a house after we moved to Seattle, we rented because we weren't sure ok we were going to be in Seattle for a couple of years, or a really long time. And then we just got tired of paying rent. We had done some number crunching to figure out that with a pretty similar mortgage payment we could buy a home and start building equity.

The day we signed the papers it was raining in Seattle, obviously. And I had to bike to the escrow place, like, soaking wet with the largest check I've ever taken out. To sign this stack of papers bigger than a dictionary. I had a moment where I was like, " Are we really grown ups? Are we allowed to do this ?" It wasn't a scary decision for us because we had already made a commitment to each other. I wouldn't have moved across the country with Charles if I didn't feel really good about our relationship and our commitment to each other and, and being together and our plans for the future. We talk about our finances a lot right now because of the wedding, pretty much every week there's a check we need to write, a deposit that we need to put down, a decision needs to be made.

There's a longer term, there's a car, there's a kid, A nest egg for cars and starting to save for our next house And. We're never moving again. [ LAUGH ] [ MUSIC ]
