## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] Jason Collins. In an article in Sports Illustrated, NBA big man, Jason Collins, came out. He is the first active male athlete to come out in the four major U. S. pro team sports. Jason Collins, played college basketball at Stanford and entered the NBA in 2001. He's been a solid big man for over a decade, a role player, starting in over 500 games and appearing in the NBA finals with the New Jersey Nets, earlier in the decade. He's versatile, the guy who sets screens, the guy who doesn't draw attention to himself. And he's, as he said in the Sports Illustrated today, that's not his goal here.

But going forward he's gonna get his fair share of attention. You know, Collins is in an interesting situation, a unique situation in a way. He's 33 and a free agent this summer. So the question becomes who's gonna to sign him and why? So, you know, at 33, he's not young, he's slowed down a bit, does he have practical use in the NBA. And will teams shy away from signing him, because, their fear, of brushback, and publicity, or have more incentive to sign him. Appealing to a new fanbase, and perhaps, gaining positive publicity for being progressive. And, and a losing NBA franchise, always looking for positive publicity.

If he's on a team next year, and he's not playing well, is, is he going to be booed just like he would have been booed anyway? Will he be released? And that's the ultimate test, is if we judge Jason Collins as a basketball player.
