## Transcript

There's an old saying about money and happiness. And according to this list compiled by Money, even some of the most well- paying and well- respected professions can still leave people pretty unsatisfied. First year law associates are usually the rookies in law firms. According to the National Association of Law Placement, first year associates made round $ 160, 000 in 2013. But job stressors like work hours and billing clients have been known to contribute to depression, according to a widely sited 1990 study from John Hopkins University. The legal profession has rates of, of occupational stress.

A that are 3. 6 times higher then the average society. High stress has even led to high rates of suicide among legal professionals the same can be said for dentists the profession that see's the highest rate of suicide. Although Money puts the median annual salary at around $ 155, 000, the American Dental Education Association reports the average dental student graduates with more than $ 200, 000 in debt. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary for sales managers is more than $ 120, 000. But constant pressure like other occupations and the sense of feeling stuck and unable to change careers has led some sells managers to admit they just aren't happy.

Working on Wall Street might seem glamorous to some, a $ 75, 000 base salary. Potential to earn millions, but working 120 hours a week can make for a miserable experience as a junior investment banker. That's what Ezra Klein found out speaking to Kevin Roose, author of Young Money. Roose said in an interview, the bank had this social contract with young people: give us two years of your lives, don't see your friends, chain yourself to your desk, but we will give you this glorious life where you're making many. Times what you could ever imagine. But now that contract is being broken. While medical professionals earn an average salary more than $ 150, 000, some say the profession isn't as prestgious or as fulfilling as it was in the past.

And many complain they don't get much time to actually practice medicine. The doctors were extremely demoralized. Not just because of the things that we know about, but they were demoralized because they were so patently focused on the financial aspects of medicine. And that rounds out our list. [ MUSIC ] Proof that money still can buy happiness.
