[ MUSIC ] Movies like I Robot and Ex Machina. Have a tendency to acquit Art Official Intelligence with dystopian futures But the science has the potential to solve many of life's problems. Like improving language translations to slashing medical bills. Over the past few years, there have been a wave of tech giants investing in AI research Cementing the technologies positioned in our lives. Google has led the course in this movement with the Alphabet Company securing 14 A. I. acquisitions. Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, has said that artificial intelligence is core to the search giants major businesses and when speaking at an NBC Town Hall event in January The CEO echoed that philosophy with this.

AI is one of the most important things humanity is working on. It's more profound than, I don't know, electricity or fire. In 2014, Google purchased the AI startup DeepMind for about $ 600 million, one of the largest AI acquisitions at the time. Since then, the AI team's been used to find the quickest route between Between train stations and improve healthcare through a controversial series of agreements with the UK's National Health Service. Apple stands right behind Google with 13 AI acquisitions. It's hard to imagine life without Siri. But back in 2010 it was the company's first AI purchase.

For many this voice recognition software has become the embodiment of AI tech at user's fingertips. Social media giant Facebook is also an AI heavyweight with six acquisitions. The company has used its machine learning software to clean up its news feed, improve its messaging app, and has even made a breakthrough to translate one music style like jazz to another like punk rock. Both Amazon and Microsoft troll these tech giants with five AI acquisitions each. Most areas of Amazon's mega business comes into contact with AI, whether through its voice assistant Alexa, its recent checkout- less store in Seattle, or automated drone delivery.

Amazon's AI powered supermarket, in Seattle, called Amazon Go, points to a new wave of retail. The store is decked out with AI tech, automatically charging customers via an app, as soon as the merchandise leaves the shelf. No more long lines at the register, or registers, at all. While these tech giants may be leading the pack in their AI acquisitions, The billions they've already invested has our lives heavily intertwined with the tech, leaving the future of AI feeling not so distant.
