## Transcript

When was William Shakespeare born? We don't really know. But he was baptised in Stratford- upon- Avon on April 26, 1564. His father was a public official in the town. As well as a money lender. Too bad he didn't get to have his son's famous advice to neither borrow nor a lender be. William would have attended a local school until about age 14. Learning Latin and studying in the classics, could have influenced plays like Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra. At 18, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, already pregnant with their first child, Susanna. We're not totally sure what happened next, but by 1592, he was already known as an upstart actor and playwright in London.

He became a managing [ UNKNOWN ] in The Lord Chamberlain's Men Acting Troupe, later to be renamed the King's Men. And in 1599, he and his partners built the Globe Theatre, where plays like Hamlet and Othello were probably first performed By the time Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616, he was the offer of some 37 plays and 154 sonnets. Four hundred years later, we're still talking about him. [ music playing ]
