And you realized they were three or four storeys tall. [ SOUND ] You know, when I was working in Ground Zero, [ SOUND ] you would see beams like that, bigger than that, thicker than that, crumpled like tin foil. [ SOUND ] Hi, I'm Joel Meyerowitz. I'm a photographer who lives in New York, and I spent nine months inside Ground Zero, photographing the World Trade Center archive. Well one of the first places I, I went to. To make rephotographic [ SOUND ] survey of the work was looking north. In the spring of 2002, the side had been excavated almost completely. And you could see the bathtub's slurry walls. And so I went back and I found, That location. [ SOUND ] It's changed. You could feel from that vantage point the wheel of time, the ten year cycle having really. Been something. Because all of use have been wondering, what's taking so long? Why isn't there something there? And there's a lot there already. [ NOISE ] The other one that I thought was important to cover each time, was to look down into the footprint of either of the towers. And watch how that has transformed itself from a rude hole in the ground. To see them finally perfect. With the names inscribed and. The solemnity of the gray granite. [ SOUND ] And to see it finished at this point, even without the water, [ SOUND ] it's almost, it's almost more profound right now, to see it without the water. [ SOUND ] Seeing. The Freedom Tower, which has been renamed One World Trade Center. To see it rise from this concrete block house at first to 75 stories now. [ NOISE ] [ SOUND ] Get some interesting perspective here. I meant to be uppy, with those dizzying views [ NOISE ] of New York City [ NOISE ] It's awesome. Well, we were all worried it was hubris to put another towel there, I mean, I think a lot of people were feeling, why ask for trouble? [ SOUND ] But now [ UNKNOWN ] it feels absolutely [ INAUDIBLE ]. [ SOUND ]. The place that call to. Was those panels of grass that would be laid out with granite blocks for benches. And the trees planted in them. [ SOUND ] This was one of the original trees [ NOISE ] that was in the site. Most of the trees were destroyed. This was [ UNKNOWN ] Terrible. Wow! But the Parks Department [ UNKNOWN ] and the group took it back to the Bronx Botanical Gardens [ NOISE ] and they nurtured it for ten years. It's like a children's book story of the survivor who's come back to be rooted again. Really the same thing.
