## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] Tax dodge. How profitable companies aren't paying their share. A growing number of American companies are reincorporating overseas to pay less corporate tax. It's called inversion. Big time companies, not the hardware store down the street, choose to reincorporate. Foreign countries that reap major tax breaks. How major? The U. S. Corporate tax rate is 35 %, but move your headquarters to Switzerland and you're looking at a bill of 18 %. In Ireland, a popular tax haven, things are even friendlier, an easy 12 %, But here's the irony. These companies matured on American soil, taking advantage of our financial markets, rule of law, our infrastructure and national research programs.

Everything that makes America, America. But when it comes to paying it forward, these companies are opting out. Several of these companies, like Seagate. In a center claim they are not inverting because they were never headquartered here in the first place. Currently there are 28 non American companies on the S & P 500. Some are household names like Carnival and Garmin, but others are lesser known big dogs, like Invesco and Allegion. Either way, inversion threatens to undermine. Mind the economy. Projected out, we stand to loss an additional 19. 5 billion in tax revenue over the next 10 years.

Talk about inverted priorities.
