The characters, the jokes, the laughs, the musicality of it all. I really just was obsessed with television from a very early age. Not just watching it blindly, but really soaking in everything about it. There's a lot of talented people of color, **** writers, that are good, they do have those scripts, and don't have access to being a writer, Or directing opportunities. We still don't have a level playing field. So that's my movement. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] All right, you know Erica? Yeah, I know Miss Erica, she's cute. I like her, I have a crush on her. Wait, are you trying to tell me that you're > You know.

It is often more difficult for a **** person to be able to not only face your truth and own in the mirror, but then to go say it out loud to other people. Ma, I'm gay. [ MUSIC ] I'm a writer. I'm a artist. That's what I do. This is what I do for a living. People are ready to watch a show with a ****, brown, protagonist. These are all things that make up who I am. Have all these articles written about it was just lovely, kind and wonderful because you just dont expect those things. [ MUSIC ] Things. I think being nominated for an Emmy was icing on an already delicious cake. [ APPLAUSE ] And the Emmy goes to Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe.

[ APPLAUSE ] First of all, I heard Aziz's name first. Then I think my nerves set in like crap, now I got to get up here and say somethiing. I didn't even think it would resonate. I just wanted to say something from my gut. My LGBQTIA family, I see each and everyone of you. The things that make us different, those are our superpowers. ( Applause ). Not just about, I get to win an Emmy, but it's about me breaking through a barrier that I didn't even know existed I think the mission is to continue to make work that's really good, that can't easily be duplicated. I was just really honored to be a part of a very exclusive club.

And now my mission is to make sure that I'm not only the one in there for too long. [ MUSIC ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ]
