## Transcript

Prosecutors in South Korea indicted the Captain Lee Joon- seok and three members of a sunken ferry Thursday saying the men did not do enough to save the 304 people that died or went missing when the vessel capsized last month. Media outlets reports on the charges for the four senior crew members range from involuntary manslaughter to murder. CNN reports 11 other crew members were charged with abandonment and violating the ships safety act. But the New York Times quotes a prosecutor who said, the heaviest charges were brought against the Captain, two shipmates and the Chief Engineer because they were thinking about their own lives.

And did not exercise their duty of aid and relief in a crisis where it was clear that the people on board would die without their help. They say the four fled the ill fated ferry without first evacuating hundreds of passengers on board and also calling them to remain in their cabins. Lee apologized for his actions and said he did give an order to. To evacuate passengers, but this video reportedly shows Lee jumping onto a rescue boat while those passengers, mostly high school students sank with the ferry. Only 75 of 325 students survived. In the wake of the rescue effort South Korea's President strongly condemned the actions of those in charge of the ferry.

The conduct of the captain and some crew members is unfathomable from the viewpoint of common sense. And it was like an act of murder that cannot and should not be tolerated. Business Week reports prosecutors are also looking into the ferry's operator and its executives to see if the ship might have been overloaded causing it to sink. Lee and the three crew members indicted could face life in prison or the death penalty, a first for South Korea in nearly 20 years. Thanks for watching. I'm Christian Bryant.
