As a matter of fact, he had the wounds of Christ. And so we want to show the world what Jesus did, you know, for them. This is where you're gonna take the cross. Can we carry it, yeah? >> For three decades, Joanne has led pilgrims from her Christ in You Ministry in Brea, California to Jerusalem's Old City to reenact The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. >> But today they're carrying the cross for their own individual union with God and tomorrow it will be so hectic that it will just be portraying this for, you know, for the Lord Jesus. >> On the morning of Good Friday, they will reenact 14 scenes or stations of the Via Dolorosa, Latin for the Path of the Sorrows, that according to the Gospels, retrace the events that led up to the crucifixion. >> Right now, we're at the third station, Jesus Falls the First Time and then over here is the fourth station where Jesus Meets the Blessed Mother. >> The pilgrims come mainly from Joanne's Southern California Ministry and do a dress rehearsal just before the real thing. >> And he's gonna be saying, " Ahhh ." You know, make it real. >> It's not just a procession or a drama, it's a form of worship. It's a form of evangelism because you're praying and interceding for other people to come to know the Lord. >> Every year, there's a different prayer intention and a different Jesus. In this play from a couple years back, Jesus was played by Southern Lebanese man named Rody Noura. Rody is one of thousands of Maronite Christians who fled his native land due to a religious persecution. >> We believe that in our cross, we can't get everything. That's our life. Our life is a cross. Start by the cross and it's ended by the cross, that's why I wanna carry it tomorrow. >> On the morning of Good Friday, Joanne frantically makes last minute costume alterations. >> Who's after this? The soldiers? >> No. >> Jim. >> Jim. >> With everyone in costume, Jesus and the rest of the group board a bus to the old city. >> Let's go. Let's go [ unk ]. Let's walk. >> You could talk to people as much as you wanna talk to them, but the thing by it is, is they were going through the one year and come up the other. Now, when you do a drama, you do a drama as [ unk ] as subconscious and that subconscious can spring in the back-- can spring in the back so in other words, explain like a video all over again and our main thing is for us to come and let the people know, let the world know that Jesus is coming back soon. >> To show the effect of flogging in the crown of thorns, fake blood is doused on the actor playing Jesus. Photographers and curious tourists swarm to the scene even if police escorts snap a photo. >> I think you should need more blood, more blood coming like coming through his mouth and spit it out. >> Here, drink it. Stay it in your mouth and spit it. Okay, now spit it out. Just spit it out. >> Sufficiently blooded, Jesus is ready. The Passion play begins. -[ unk ] What's the matter with you? You need another help? I need to put this on you. >> Jesus. >> The soldiers give Jesus a purple robe and begin to mock him by calling him, " The King of the Jews ". They pretend to flog him. >> Make way for the " The King of the Jews ". >> Let him go. >> At Station IV, he meets the Blessed Mother Mary. >> Sweet Jesus, we love you. >> And at Station VII, he is given his cross. >> Give him the cross, soldiers. >> Yeah, yeah. [ unk ]. >> After the crucifixion and the shower, Rody Noura reappeared. -[ unk ]. >> He would become a priest shortly after the Passion play and this Easter, Joanne and the Christ in You Ministry are back in Jerusalem for the 32nd year in a row.
