## Transcript

I'm Christopher Morris and I've been a Time contract photographer since 1990. 2000, they assigned me to cover the White House. Because it was so restrictive and so difficult, I mean, you're basically photographing one man in a suit for eight nine years, it's difficult to be a little creative. But it made me the photographer I am today, it made me a better photographer. I had an opportunity to do a commercial shoot in Paris a few years ago using a camera called the Phantom. The Phantom is a high speed digital cinema camera, and by high speed we mean it shoots at a high frame rate. You gather a lot of images in a very short period of time.

When you go to play that back the effect is one of extreme slow motion. I had my preconceived ideas of what they would be but when I opened up the clips after I filmed all that kind of went out the window. We were all kind of wondering can this happen? So the very first event we went to we did a test shot just to see how we were on exposure with the effect of the frame rate we were shooting And we played it back to just look at it. And it was immediately his photography come to life. It was like we looked at it and the first thing Chris said was this is gonna work. This project is gonna work. Because I'm a journalist I have a real hard time with a lot of manipulation and a lot of distortion.

When you watch these six films I did on the candidates, it's very realistic because what is happening is you're slowing time down. It's a dimension that we don't understand, that we don't see. But it's there. It's an altered state. You were shooting at 720 frames per second. So that means One second of recorded time becomes 30 seconds of playback. So what we wanted to do with the audio is have that exact same ratio. You have this kind of religious Gregorian chant type of sound. It's almost very spiritual, sometimes very spooky, sometimes very eery. [ MUSIC ] In my conflict work. I've had some rounds land nearby where I can actually see the debris.

I can actually see the explosion. When your body senses death and fear, it puts you into this altered state very briefly and that's what the phantom captures. [ MUSIC ] I was completely surprised that what came across. He put them all in the same line from supporters and the supporters yes they have different ideologies. But there are people. There are people, there are Americans we're all Americans And I can feel that in the film. And I think with the film and just with this altered state of sound I'm trying to expose that absurdity of Their message and what they're trying to do, basically, to get elected.
