## Transcript

>> So, Dan, what's the point you're making about Barack Obama on your take on Washingtonpost. com?

>> Well, I think, Mark, the interesting thing about this convention is that this is a candidate who has been in so many ways you need an unconventional and yet there is pressure on him to become even more conventional in order to try to win you'll entry. I could say that for a number of reasons. One is that there are a lot of people who think that despite the unique gifts he has as a candidate, and he has a point gotten down the ground level with as the tricky point on the economy, and that there are a lot of Democrats who were saying, now is the time to begin to do that. I think another element is he is always resistant and I think for some varied reasons, slash and burn politics has been reluctant as he put it during the primaries to meet opponent.

I don't think he's ever gonna do that and I don't necessarily [ unk ] for that kind of thing. But this is a tough campaign and a number of us from the post spoke with Governor [ unk ] from Ohio last night, and he said, basically, as the nominee of the party, Senator Obama is obligated to fight as hard as he possibly can in his honest and ethical way as he can do it. So, I think there is pressure on him to show not just that he's tough but that he's prepared to take the fight of McCain basically everyday. We're seeing evidence of that. I think the choice of Senator Biden who's running [ unk ] was assigned, that he understands that there's pragmatism that he has to bring to this campaign and I think that he might be able to do that, but it's an interesting attention that to hear at the beginning of this convention for a candidate who's made his reputation for being unique, inspiring, kind of above the frame, now being asked to do some things that are moral fashion in terms of politics.

>> Is it safe to say that only time will tell?

>> You can say that.

>> Right. Dan, thank you.

>> Thank you, Mark.
