## Transcript

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian. But you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know that there's something wrong in this country, when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion, and I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. So, I'm very comfortable with that ad. For one thing, my faith is a part of me. The values that I learned in my Christian upbringing will affect my governing. I mean, I asked people, I said, which one of the ten commandments do you not like?

I mean why are our children not allowed to pray in school? Why can they not celebrate Christmas? As you see right over my, my shoulder right there, there's a, there's a picture on the wall. I'm in the library of the Texas Governor's mansion. And the greatest governor that ever served the state was Sam Houston. And, from this library that I speak, he made a powerful decision, that cost him his governorship, He was against slavery. And, he stood up and very passionately said, you know, Texas does not need to leave the Union. And, he was right. But it cost him his governorship. But, that's the type of principled leadership.

That's the type of courage that I hope people across this country, on this issue of, of scouts and keeping the Boy Scouts the organization that it is today, because it is serving young men and women. And, and if we change and, and become more like pop culture, young men will be not as well served. America will not be as well served. And Boy Scouts will start on a decline that I don't think will serve this country well as we go into the future. Well the bottom line is, I think that scouts needs to be about teaching those traditional values. It doesn't need to be about teaching sexuality. There's, here's my issue.

This is about my faith. Right. And I happen to think that you know, there are a whole host of sins, homosexuality being one of them. And I, I'm a sinner and so I'm not gonna be the person to throw a stone but to openly. It's just like the Boy Scouts. You're called, and the Boy Scouts, were sued to let openly gay individuals serve as scout masters, and that again, is one of those issues that, you know, I don't agree with. And I don't agree that openly gays should be serving in the military. I do believe it is right, under the purview of Scripture, for the church to judge certain behaviors as sin.

But that is wholly different from judging fellow sinners. You know in Matthew seven, three to five, we, we hear that, admonition, ask that question, why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye when you have a plank in yours? We cannot condemn certain lifestyles while turning a blind eye to sins that, in God's eye, are just as grievous. We must love all, welcome all, and be a model of Christ to all. We know that God is the same yesterday, today, forevermore. And so are his truths. They never change. [ LAUGH ] Pop culture be what it may, God's truths never change. Our friends in New York, six weeks ago, passed a statute that says, marriage can be between two people of the same sex.

Well you know what, that's New York, and that's their business, and that's fine with me. Let me just you know, I, I, I probably needed to add a few words after that, it's fine with me, and that it's fine with me that a state is using their sovereign rights to decide an issue. Obviously gay marriage is not fine with me. You know, my stance hasn't changed. I, I believe marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
