## Transcript

[00:00] SpaceX founder Elon Musk just made space
[00:03] exploration a little more glamorous. On Thursday, he
[00:06] revealed his Dragon V2 capsule which might as well be
[00:10] the Rolls Royce of space craft. The
[00:16] unveiling took place at SpaceX's rocket factory in
[00:19] California. Musk glowed like a proud father while
[00:22] opening the hatch and sliding into the black and gold
[00:25] pilot's chair. The cabin seems fairly roomy, despite
[00:29] seating up to seven passengers. But the V2s crowning
[00:32] achievement is its landing. Seen in this 3D rendering
[00:36] the capsule uses powerful thrusters while re- entering
[00:39] earth for a pillow like touch down further testing will
[00:43] prove the systems precision but for now NASA's
[00:46] parachutes are so 20th century. So you'll be able to
[00:49] land anywhere on Earth with the accuracy of a
[00:52] helicopter, which is I think, something that spaceship
[00:54] should, a modern spaceship should, be able to do.
[00:57] Musk explained to the crowd V2's reusable landing
[01:00] system means less down time between flights. And
[01:02] more importantly, cheaper rides to the final frontier.
[01:06] He told space. com, as long as we continue to throw
[01:09] away rockets and spacecraft, we will never have true
[01:13] access to space. It will always be incredibly expensive.
[01:17] After ending its space shuttle program in 2011, NASA
[01:20] has relied on Russian rockets to enter space at about
[01:23] $ 71 million a pop. Musk promises his dragon can
[01:27] send seven to space for just $ 20 million. Frequent use
[01:31] could push prices even lower. V2's design resembles
[01:35] SpaceX's first robotic space craft, the Dragon V1. That
[01:39] ship has already completed three trips to the
[01:41] International Space Station, under a $ 1. 6 billion
[01:45] contract with NASA. Musk plans to fire up the V2 for
[01:49] its first test flight sometime in 2016. Thanks for
[01:53] watching. I'm Cliff Judy.
